The intern will provide direct programmatic and administrative support to the Knowledge Leadership and Partnerships team in the HIV/AIDS Section to manage content for internal and external knowledge management platforms, to conduct literature reviews to inform the development of key knowledge products, to assist in the development of templates to be used to gather programmatic, political, research and/or data elements from country and partner organizations and to provide other programmatic support as needed.

  1. Background:

 The fight against HIV/AIDS is not yet over, despite remarkable progress over the past decade. UNICEF’s HIV/AIDS programming addresses HIV prevention, treatment and care for infants, children, adolescents and mothers. To reach an AIDS-free generation, UNICEF focuses on the unfinished business in supporting countries to prevent new infections among children, women and adolescents, to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV and to bring and retain mothers, children and adolescents living with HIV in lifelong care. 

  1. Purpose:

The intern will provide direct programmatic and administrative support to the Knowledge Leadership and Partnerships team in the HIV/AIDS Section to manage content for internal and external knowledge management platforms, to conduct literature reviews to inform the development of key knowledge products, to assist in the development of templates to be used to gather programmatic, political, research and/or data elements from country and partner organizations and to provide  other programmatic support as needed. 

The intern will gain exposure to increase their knowledge of information systems within United Nations, the global HIV and AIDS agenda including the use of data for programming and advocacy, and key partners in these arenas and will apply and improve their writing, problem solving and organizational skills.

Overall Objective:

Assist in overall internal and external communication and knowledge sharing.

Specific Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in communicating information and sharing knowledge at three levels of the organization including global, regional and national.
  • Write and post content on a weekly basis for the intranet, Children and AIDS website, including blog posts, resources, and event updates.  
  • Assist in writing and editing key publications as needed
  • Contribute to special projects and research on EMTCT, Paediatric and Adolescent HIV and integration of services within MNCH, conduct literature reviews and tool/template development, as needed
  1. Expected results: (measurable results)
  • Intranet and external website updated on weekly basis, including development and writing of technical content
  • Generation of quarterly newsletters
  • Editing and writing of at least 2 publications/reports/presentations
  • Literature reviews conducted as needed
  • Development of tool/templates for gathering information across country and partner organizations

  3. Key competences, technical background, and experience required:

Minimal Qualifications:

The incumbent must:

  • Be enrolled in a programme at the Masters level, preferably in Library Science, Public Health, Public Policy and Management, Health Communications or Business Administration.
  • Knowledge of web content management systems
  • Strong writing and organizational skills
  • Fluency in English and another UN language preferred. Knowledge of one other UN working language an advantage.
