Intern: Strategic Sourcing and Outreach

Duration: 3 months (with a possibility to extend to 6 months in total)

Time: A minimum of 3 days per week - full time (Monday - Friday 9:30am - 5:30pm). Beginning 15th October 2017 (flexible)

As the Strategic Sourcing and Outreach Intern, you will support HR outreach activities and strategic partnerships including the Young Innovators Fellowship Programme partners and the UNFPA /UN Volunteers Partnership.

Working with the Head of Strategic Sourcing, you will support global HR activities to expand UNFPA’s brand among prospective hires. You will also enhance UNFPA strategic partnerships including the Young Innovators Fellowship Programme partners and the UNFPA /UN Volunteers Partnership.

You Would Be Responsible For

Supporting design and implementation of Strategic Sourcing and Outreach strategy:
• Enhancing the use of social media applications such as LinkedIn and Glassdoor (look /feel/content);  in order to increase the quality and quantity of prospective candidates;
• Launching new approach to how UNFPA creates job descriptions and vacancy announcements, through training and communications in order to enhance attraction of candidates.

Assisting in the coordination and development of the Young Innovators Fellowship Programme:
• Supporting the enhancement of the Young Innovators Fellowship Programme; a 12 month fellowship hosted in HQ / Regional Offices / Country Offices
• Reviewing the 3 month learning and development curriculum hosted in HQ
• Liaising with UN agencies and external organizations focused on innovation to coordinate workshops, sourcing external mentorships, and curating events which facilitate the Fellows’ learning
• Create programme guidelines in order to monitor effectiveness of the Programme
• Focus on continual improvement and innovative ideas to further enhance the Programme

Developing and promoting communication tools and platforms related to UNFPA’s partnership with UNV:
• Supporting video production to promote UN Volunteers, e.g. filming, editing and uploading;
• Supporting the update of the UNFPA-/UNV Partnership intranet page;
• Assisting in the development of Standard Operating Procedures which explain how to deploy a UN Volunteer within UNFPA
• Coordinating events/ webinars/ workshops related to promoting volunteerism at UNFPA;

You Possess
Your Qualifications and Experience

• Experience in Human Resources; sourcing, recruitment, branding, knowledge of social media and traditional media applications and workforce planning particularly desirable;
• Competence in the delivery of innovative and cost-effective sourcing and outreach in a complex multicultural environment;
• Excellent writing and communication skills;
• Experience in supporting project management and implementation of initiatives
• Excellent client service skills; can-do attitude with ability to take the initiative;
• Ability to integrate in teams
• Strong interest in development work, especially the mission of UNFPA; and dedication to the principles of the United Nations.

Your Languages:

Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, other official languages of the UN desirable (French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Arabic).

Learning Elements

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, you should be able to:
1. Write and formulate key reporting and communication documents
2. Gain an increased understanding of the UN system
3. Understand UNFPA’s HR Strategy; how to implement key HR initiatives; understand HR technical language and working procedures particularly regarding Strategic Sourcing and Outreach within the UN
4. Network with UNFPA Colleagues
5. Work as a team member in a multicultural setting
