Department Overview

Pact exists to help create a world where those who are poor and marginalized exercise their voice, build their own solutions, and take ownership of their future. The special projects department is part of the Office of the Chief Global Program Officer, and the director will lead, manage and support implementation of special projects that align with Pact’s strategic focus. Projects and initiatives will be prioritized and identified by the Chief Global Program Officer, the Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Financial Officer.

Position Purpose

The Director of Special Projects reports to the Chief Global Programs Officer, and delivers project management, strategic alignment and implementation support for key organizational projects and initiatives as prioritized and assigned by the CGPO, COO and CFO. The Director will work in collaboration with Senior Leadership and Country Directors to promote efficiency, effectiveness, and to mitigate risk. In alignment with Global Programs strategic focus this position will have key responsibilities contributing to three objectives: (1.) Deliver on Pact’s promise to implement projects on schedule, on budget and meeting project objectives; (2.) Grow and diversify Pact’s global portfolio integrating the private, public and social sectors; (3.) Promote Pact’s work globally to influence the private, public and social sectors:

Key Responsibilities

Project Management:

· Direct and support implementation of special projects as prioritized and identified by the CGPO, COO, and the CFO;

· Work directly with senior leadership to identify and prioritize opportunities and risks associated with projects;

· Direct and coordinate work efforts of cross functional teams, ensuring that work adheres to quality standards and is achieved by project deadlines;

· Develop and manage project budgets, and track project milestones;

· Evaluate project progress and results and report them to leadership, ensuring that changes to scope, budget, resources and risk are communicated in a timely way;

· Facilitate annual PMD Pro HQ training, and conduct certification training in 3-4 country offices annually;

· Develop and mainstream a “country office toolkit” which includes policies, processes and minimum standards that can be adapted and contextualized;

Risk Mitigation:

· Working with the Risk Management and Agreement Management teams, integrate program focus into ICR and ERM initiatives;

· Work with Pact Inc, Pact Institute, Pact UK and Pact Ventures to ensure donor and board requirements can be met;

Influence:

· Utilize opportunities to showcase Pact’s project management approaches with donors, partners and other stakeholders;

Change Management:

· Develop a value proposition and communications plan to ensure multiple stakeholders understand the purpose of the special projects department;

· Ensure cross organizational collaboration, shared success and joint action when leading working groups for special projects or initiatives;

Basic Requirements

· Master’s degree in related field and at least ten (10) years of project management or operational experience;

· Experience managing teams of culturally diverse employees in a global environment and working effectively at all levels of the organization;

· Ability to collaborate with and communicate effectively with senior leadership;

· Experience in complex non-profit international development organization with demonstrated ability in operations, administration, visioning, planning, and effective execution;

· Experience and/or certification in operations and project management best practices (i.e. PMD-Pro);

· Requires 25-30% international travel;

Preferred Qualifications

· Strong written and verbal communications skills

· Demonstrated initiative and creativity when solving problems and managing conflict;

· Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize;

· Demonstrated strong analytical skills with ability to quickly interpret and organize data and information

· Strong understanding of budgets;

· Extensive knowledge of various donor regulations and compliance expectations;

· High level competence using Microsoft office software, databases, and project management software;
