The aims of The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) Regional Program is to establish the foundations for an effective and sustainable mechanism to address the issue of the missing in the MENA Region, including in post-conflict Syria. The program will focus on:

1)     contributing to increased understanding among victims, civil society and key stakeholders regarding processes, standards and rights of victims and survivors who are involved in accounting for missing persons;

2)     establishing the conditions to launch a participative process of data collection that empowers and engages families of the missing;

3)     increasing the capacity of Syrian families, legal experts and other stakeholders to foster an impartial and law-based approach to accounting for missing persons in post-conflict Syria.

Position Background

The ideal candidate will be responsible for interpretation of various data sets, turning all those into a more usable insight which will be used to make further operational decisions.  Developing various data system collection techniques as well as using various statistical tools and methods ensuring that the function of data analysis is carried out effectively and with the highest quality.

 

Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Progam, and working in consultation with the Director of Data Systems, the Data Analyst will be responsible for the following tasks: 

  • Analyzing data sets collected from various sources based on specific requirements and objectives;
  • Importing, cleaning, transforming and validating data sets;
  • Replying to inquiries received via Online Inquiry Centre (mainly in Arabic);
  • Identifying, analyzing, predicting and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets;
  • In cooperation with Data System staff, creating data visualizations and presenting complex and detailed statistical and research reports;
  • Designing specific data models for collection, tracking and reporting;
  • Contributing to the developing tools and methods for the evaluation and quality control of data;
  • Writing comprehensive and customized reports;
  • Contributing to the development of the iDMS database software solutions;
  • Ensuring that the records handling functions conform at all times with ICMP’s policies of personal data protection and confidentiality;
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in Mathematics, Economics, Technical Sciences, Computer Science or Engineering;
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a data analyst;
  • Proven experience in data collection or analysis in the region (Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Jordan);
  • Knowledge of statistics and mathematics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets;
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate large amounts of data with attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Knowledge of techniques and software for data visualization;
  • Ability to write report with conclusions from the data;
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines and produce results.

Additional requirements:

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic. Knowledge of written and spoken French, Turkish and/or Kurdish is highly desirable;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point;
  • Proven ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality or gender;
  • Willingness to travel and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings, when necessary;
  • Legally entitled to work in Lebanon.
