Global Child Forum is currently recruiting for a Programme Specialist to support the organisation in developing expertise and knowledge on children’s rights and business. As Programme Specialist, you will be responsible for the content, development and delivery of the content and programme for our global and regional forums. You will also work with managing key partnerships connected to forums and our follow-up activities.

Global Child Forum organizes global forums at the highest level, and conducts research and analysis on children’s rights issues. Through innovative partnerships with companies and civil society, we initiate, develop and provide knowledge on how children’s rights can be secured and integrated into business operations. We work to ensure the fulfilment of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child among all stakeholders. This position is an exceptional opportunity to work together with the private sector, governments, civil society and academia on the responsibility to respect and support children’s rights.

Your assignment

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, but in close collaboration with the Partnership Manager, you will be responsible for the creation of high-level forums and events related to children’s rights at the intersection of business, government and civil society. Leveraging on your understanding of how different stakeholders in the society affect children´s lives, and with a passion for interaction and collaboration within different sectors, you will work on developing forums and events that are insightful, innovative and inspiring for an audience of high-level decision-makers.

Main duties & responsibilities include:

  • Shaping and developing the content, flow and dynamics of our global forums at the Royal Palace in Stockholm and our regional forums around the world;
  • Applying a deep understanding of emerging children’s rights issues to be used in strategy development around our Forums, events and follow-up activities;
  • Provide specialized policy-oriented analysis and advise on key topics and trends in the area of children’s rights and the corporate sustainability agenda;
  • Prepare briefing notes, speeches/statements, talking points, and background papers for meetings with our partners, multilateral organizations, and private sector companies;
  • Contribute to the planning and follow-up of other activities through outreach with expert partners, preparation of comprehensive data driven background analysis and briefs, as well as engagement with country level counterparts to build and sustain advocacy momentum and implementation of recommendations;
  • In close collaboration with the Partnership Manager, contribute to managing and expanding high-level relationships and dialogue with UN entities, multilateral institutions and other expert partners.

Qualifications and skills:

  • An advanced degree in international affairs, development studies, political science or similar.
  • A minimum of five years relevant working experience within the area of children’s rights and business or related development sector.
  • Previous experience with sustainability issues, preferably from perspectives such as code of conducts, values chains, human rights and children’s rights.
  • Knowledge of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Children’s Rights & Business Principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Excellent project manager and strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate and work with partners from diverse and multi-cultural contexts.
  • Experience in arranging high-level events and conferences is considered advantageous.
  • To be successful in this position you need to be analytical, diplomatic, flexible, able to take initiative and be a true team collaborator.
