Background and purpose

Yemen is caught in the on-going conflict and is facing severe food insecurity. DRC is carrying out WFP General Food Distribution (GFD) to vulnerable host/IDP families in 6 districts of Abyan Governorate, where about 20,000 families receive food baskets every month.

Key responsibilities

The main functions of the FS Officer involve,

Working closely with the FSL Manager, the FSL team, partners, and Local Authorities, community representatives to plan, organize, account, conclude and document monthly Food Distribution to targeted host/IDP households at pre-designated ‘food distribution points (FDPs); Being fully responsible for supervising and assisting Food Distribution Assistants (FDAs) in assigned areas; Sensitizing, mobilizing, training, and strengthening Community Committees to verify eligible households to receive rations during monthly distributions; Working closely with WFP staff  to prepare Monthly Food Plans and organize food delivery to FDP sites on scheduled dates and locations; Being fully responsible for accurately documenting all recipient households receiving rations during each distribution; Assisting Monitoring and Reporting Assistants (M&RA) to compile, summarize, and analyze distribution and post-distribution information; Attending meetings with WFP, related clusters, and  partners; Attending other related functions as and when assigned by FSL  Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor Degree in any relevant discipline;

Proficient in English & Arabic;

At least 2 years work experience in similar position;

Excellent familiarity to food security programmes;

Excellent skills in MS Office – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - to compile food distribution statistics;   

Excellent planning, coordination and communication skills;

Ability/willingness to undertake field visits and be a team player;
