UNICEF Mongolia is looking for qualified report writers and editors (International)

If you are a committed, creative professional and are passionate about making a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you.

For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.

Background & Rationale

 UNICEF is the agency of the United Nations mandated to advocate for the survival, development, protection and participation of children’s rights. Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF Mongolia promotes children’s rights as the standard to be followed at all levels of the society.

Advocacy for child rights require effective communication not only with programme implementing partners but also with the donors, international community, and the general public.  UNICEF Mongolia regularly produces donor reports, publications and communications materials targeting an external audience in support of its Country Program and advocacy efforts.  Many of the publications, studies and evaluations prepared for partners need also to be made available in English. Moreover, translations often require further polishing in order to meet organizational required standard.

Therefore, UNICEF Mongolia is seeking the services of a highly skilled English writer to finalize draft Annual Results Report, donor reports, publications and communications materials, including final proofread, edit, making any additional necessary changes to ensure consistency and quality before sending them to donors, design and printing, or publication.

 Purpose

The purpose of the assignment is to provide writing, editing and proofreading support to UNICEF Mongolia for various writing based activities.

Assignment Tasks

  • Prepare second draft (from compiled UNICEF Mongolia first draft, staff inputs and relevant materials), and final version of the country office annual report; write summary, rewrite, reshape the structure of the draft country office annual report in line with UNICEF standards and established annual report guidelines;
  • Edit donor reports, country office documents, and advocacy briefs; ensure and enhance linkages between chapters/sections in the reports.  If necessary, rewrite donor reports to be in line with UNICEF standards and established donor guidelines; eliminate inconsistencies (including repetitive text) and errors, and ensure that all formatting, punctuation, spelling, and style are consistent. Cross-check and update the glossary, table of content and list of tables and figures, as needed;
  • Suggest other improvements to ensure final edited documents are reader-friendly and appropriate for general public/external use;
  • Communicate with UNICEF Mongolia programme staff as and when necessary to address clarifications to finalize the reports or documents requested.
  • Provide the rationale for changes made in draft reports, if any.
