Under the close supervision of a Humanitarian Affairs Specialist, the incumbent contributes to national humanitarian programme planning, implementation, monitoring evaluation and the administration of program/project activities related to UNICEF’s support to vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian families at the north-eastern border, in ITSs and living in marginalized situations in the host community.

The purpose of the job:

Under the close supervision of a Humanitarian Affairs Specialist, the incumbent contributes to national humanitarian Programme planning, implementation, monitoring evaluation and the administration of program/project activities related to UNICEF’s support to vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian families at the north-eastern border, in ITSs and living in marginalized situations in the host community.

How can you make a difference?

  1. Collects and analyses data on the situation of vulnerable Syrian, Jordanian and other children in humanitarian and otherwise highly marginalized settings in Jordanian host communities, camps, ITSs and at the north-eastern border.

 

  1. Critical programme intervention points identified, and programme work plans/recommendations supported under the supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Specialist and in coordination with relevant programme colleagues.

 

  1. Works closely with national/ international partners in host communities, camps, and ITSs to build capacity, ensure the quality of services, roll out campaigns, and support cohesion between Jordanians and Syrians.

 

  1. Researches and supports the implementation of innovative solutions to protracted challenges in UNICEF’s response in humanitarian settings.

 

  1. Undertakes ongoing visits to UNICEF project and non-project sites assess local conditions and resources and monitors UNICEF inputs.  Communicates with beneficiaries and on project feasibility and effectiveness including monitoring the flow of supply and non-supply assistance.

 

  1. Analyzes humanitarian programme implementation reports and evaluates against established programme recommendations and plans of action.  Prepares tables, graphs and other statistical data. 

 

  1. Carries out follow-up action on programme implementation activities and prepares relevant reports.  Drafts changes in humanitarian programme work plans as required.

 

  1. Compiles training and orientation materials for those involved in humanitarian programme implementation, supports humanitarian training to a wide range of staff.

 

  1. Builds relationships with new community-based organizations to support the response to the needs of the most marginalized children.

 

  1. Drafts relevant sections of reports (required for donors, management, annual reports, situation reports, etc. contributing to the overall humanitarian section reporting mechanism).

 

  1. Programme monitoring and evaluations effectively conducted to improve program performance, and humanitarian programme status reports timely prepared.  Gender/sex and disability disaggregated data and inputs relevant to country programme provided an integral part of programming.

 

  1. To act as communication focal points within the humanitarian team for refugee and asylum seekers community to facilitate timely delivery of refugees, camp, berm and host communities’ humanitarian needs.

 

  1. Rights-based and results-based programming approach fully incorporated into all phases of programme and projects processes.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: University degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Government, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Policy, Social Development, Community Development, or other relevant disciplines, with specialized training in conflict resolution.

Experience:  One year of relevant professional work experience in humanitarian coordination. Field experience is highly desirable. 

Background/familiarity with Emergency is highly desirable.

Language requirement: Fluency in English and Arabic required.
