The New Talent Team is responsible for the acquisition and management of entry- and mid-level talent. It manages programmes like the New and Emerging Talent Initiative (NETI), the Junior Professional Officer (JPO) programme, the UN Volunteers (UNV) and the Internship Programme. The unit also manages the outreach function and serves as a laboratory for new talent management initiatives.

The UNICEF Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

Purpose of the internship:

The New Talent Team is responsible for the acquisition and management of entry- and mid-level talent. It manages programmes like the New and Emerging Talent Initiative (NETI), the Junior Professional Officer (JPO) programme, the UN Volunteers (UNV) and the Internship Programme. The unit also manages the outreach function and serves as a laboratory for new talent management initiatives.

Under the supervision of the HR Specialist/Officer, the intern will:

Support the development of the Internship and UNV Interface

  • Assist with the development of the Internship and UNV interface on SharePoint page to provide information to interns and UNVs – on upcoming events and other general information
  • Assist with the development of networking events for interns and UNVs
  • Assist with the development of the orientation section for interns
  • Assist with any other updates to the website as necessary

Internal and External Communication

  • Create a Social Network Group for interns and UNVs and invite current and former interns/UNVs to be part of the community
  • Share relevant news and posts within the group to create awareness
  • Assist in the development of a communication strategy in collaboration with the outreach team
  • In collaboration with the outreach team promote both programmes in our external and internal channels

Monitoring

  • Assist with the development and roll-out of an internship/UNV Satisfaction/Exit Survey
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the internship database for monitoring and community engagement
  • Assist to monitor and evaluate both programmes
  • Assist with internal review process and quality assurance for both programmes

Start date: January/2018

Modality: Paid Internship - Fulltime

Duration: Six months

Qualifications: 

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate university degree in communication, business administration or related field is required.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience in a multicultural environment or setting, (e.g. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;
  • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
  • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;
