The Global Philanthropy team within the Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) section in PFP Division, in UNICEF office in Geneva is seeking to hire a Fundraising Manager that will act as a changemaker and accelerator for UNICEF with regard to philanthropic giving, offering dedicated support to highest value strategic opportunities.

The Private Sector Fundraising (PSFR) section within PFP works with National Committees, HQ and UNICEF country offices to maximize income and drive income growth. There are five units within the PSFR section. The purpose of the Global Philanthropy team within PSFR is to drive income growth from philanthropists and the foundation sector.   A number of strategic philanthropic initiatives are planned for 2018-21, which require dedicated hand-on management that the post-holder will provide collaborating closely with PFP, National Committee and Country Office, philanthropic fundraisers.

Under the general guidance of the Chief, Global Philanthropy, the incumbent will be responsible for direct management of strategic philanthropy initiatives, including: direct solicitation of highest value ( $ 10 million+) gifts for highest potential donors identified in global High Net Worth Individual (HNWI) target list; development of new membership giving opportunities and platforms, notably with Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs); creation of leadership giving circles and events in locations with high concentrations of HNWIs, often deploying UNICEF's key influencer advocates.  The purpose of the job is to act as a changemaker and accelerator for UNICEF with regard to philanthropic giving, offering dedicated support to highest value strategic opportunities.

The post-holder will need to build strong internal and external partnerships within PFP, among Country Offices, Regional Offices and National Committees, and with external intermediaries

The post-holder will operate on a principle of subsidiarity seeking to secure and cement the highest value partnerships, while seeking over the medium term to transfer relationship management to the appropriate local counterparts within UNICEF.


How can you make a difference? 

Membership and Faith-based Giving Partnerships

Under the direction of the Chief, Global Philanthropy, the post-holder will undertake development and launch of designated partnerships with membership and faith-based groups. Such initiatives will be undertaken in cooperation with appropriate internal partners within UNICEF.   The first such initiative is expected to be launch of a global Zakat fund, for annual contributions from Muslim donors. The post-holder will be expected to spearhead significant growth in this area of giving over the 2018-21 strategic period.

HNWI Donor Cultivation., Solicitation and Stewardship

Working in close collaboration with the Fundraising Manager, HNWI, within the Global Philanthropy team, the post-holder will undertake direct cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of designated highest value ( $ 10 million+) donors and prospects, in coordination with relevant internal partners and stakeholders within UNICEF.   The post-holder will make a significant contribution to the realization of major donor income targets for the 2018-21 period.

Key Influencer Events and Platforms

The post-holder will work to deploy UNICEF key influencers and advocates in the creation and leveraging of events and activities attracting high value philanthropic donors to support UNICEF, working in close partnership with National Committees, Country Offices and Regional Offices.

Innovative Philanthropic Mechanisms

Working collaboratively with the Partnerships Manager (Financial Innovation Lab) the post-holder will be charged with co-developing and securing financial support for innovative giving mechanisms involving financial intermediaries.  

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

Education:

Advanced university degree in international development, business administration, communications or related field is required.

Experience:

  • Eight years of progressively responsible professional work in securing and managing high value ( i.e,. $10 million +) philanthropic partnerships is required
  • Experience in building philanthropic partnerships in cities with high concentrations of global wealth an asset.
  • Significant experience in working on philanthropic partnerships through intermediaries such as Faith Based Organizations or financial services providers will be considered a requirement.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in philanthropic fundraising within UNICEF, UN agencies, or multi-lateral funding agencies.
  • Familiarity with UNICEF programmes desirable.  

Language Requirements:

Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required. Fluency in additional UN Languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is highly desirable.
