Background Information – Cambodia

UNOPS established its Cambodia Office (KHOH) in early 2013 which oversees a diverse set of projects/programs that includes a multi-donor funded project to support the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) known as the Khmer Rouge Tribunal, the Malaria Programs funded by the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), the Regional Artemisinin Initiative (RAI), advisory services to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Governance related projects funded by the EU as well as nutrition related initiatives.

UNOPS KHOH is also overseeing business activities and providing support and services to UNOPS operations in other countries, especially within the Mekong Region and the Philippines.

UNOPS KHOH is in the process of expanding its area of engagement in cooperation with its development partners, focusing mainly on a portfolio comprised of projects and programs in the infrastructure, governance, procurement, justice and agricultural sector and subsequently is looking for qualified and committed experts.

Functional Responsibilities

THIS IS THE LOCAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME, SO ONLY CAMBODIAN IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY.


The Business Intelligence Analyst (Intern) will work in the Phnom Penh, Cambodia office and reports primarily to the Project Support and Business Development Analyst and as a secondary supervisor, to the Director, Operation Center.

The Intern will support KHOC Business Development Unit by conducting research on donor and market trends, developing business/market analysis reports (e.g. by donor, sector and country), researching and developing partner profiles, as well as associated engagement strategies and consistently monitoring donor/government tenders to identify possible new business acquisition opportunities. The incumbent will be responsible for the following specific tasks:
  • Research and draft business/market analyses concerning possible  business acquisition opportunities in the region;
  • Prepare business/market analysis reports for both major donors as well as countries in the region;
  • Research, draft, update and maintain partner profiles according to changing/shifting donor priorities, areas of focus, country strategies, inter alia;
  • Research and draft partner engagement strategies for the region;
  • Contribute to, review and comment on, internal reports on market entry and partnership development strategies in the region;
  • Aid in the development of bidder/partner/competitor analyses reports for engagements;
  • Monitoring of business development/donor websites (e.g. www.devex.com) to aid in the identification of potential business acquisition opportunities;
  • Consistent updating of AR Regional Country Portfolios;
  • Design, maintenance and periodic updating of AR intranet information; and
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a university degree such as a Bachelor or Masters in the field of International Relations, International Development, Economics, Political Sciences, Public Management or any other related area.
  • Applicants who have graduated from such studies within the recent three years will also be considered eligible for the position.

Experience

  • Any prior work experience is not required; however, previous working experience in related field is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required and Fluency in one of the other UN languages is plus.

Contract type, level and duration

Six months (half-day internship) and with possible extension.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff/ICA position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend (10% to 15% of the reduced DSA) as per UNOPS internship policy provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, insurance coverage and any necessary visas.
