Overview

We are seeking a D.C.-based Associate Director, Business Development within the Resilience and Growth Division. The Associate Director provides technical guidance that informs proposals, projects and practice areas. In business development, this involves engaging in the design and delivery of competitive proposals.

Responsibilities

Primary activities include but are not limited to: engage with the Resilience and Growth (R&G) portfolio of new business opportunities based on the demands and priorities of the proposal processes and proposal team needs; manage proposal teams and contribute to the technical design process for multiple bids; participate as member of teams conducting in-country investigations of new project opportunities and recruiting candidates for proposed staff positions; research, analyze, and plan for new funding opportunities, competitive intelligence, and ACDI/VOCA’s competitive positioning on a continuous basis within the marketplace in collaboration with the R&G and Inclusive Market Systems (IMS), Technical Learning and Application (TLA), and the Business Development Group (BDG); support effective internal communication and information management; in collaboration with BDG, provide business development skill and capacity to guide and/or lead R&G proposal teams in opportunity analysis, capture planning, proposal preparation, proposal review, and after action review; in collaboration with BDG, support R&G proposal teams to manage proposal processes to ensure timely submission of high quality proposals; support personnel recruitment, budget development, non-technical proposal writing, and/or editing/packaging as part of proposal teams.

In addition, this position will be responsible for supporting R&G proposal teams in the identification of international partners and negotiation of ACDI/VOCA’s role on proposal consortia, ensuring a competitive position for ACDI/VOCA. In collaboration with BDG, this person will contribute to the development and dissemination of standardized business development materials (learning resources, guidelines, tools and templates, and online information) and build capacity of R&G and Project Operations staff on their application. The Associate Director will also support the Business Intelligence Unit to develop and maintain key relationships with donors, collaborating organizations, and private sector actors with an eye toward opportunity identification, shared value creation, strategic alliance formation, and global brand positioning. Also, this person will contribute to proposal efforts as Technical Writer on strategic bids or by providing extensive technical content.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or higher in international development, agriculture, finance, economics or other relevant field. Minimum of five years’ experience, including overseas work, in international development or related field. Demonstrated excellence in oral, written and reading comprehension abilities. Experience with multi-media applications, Power Point and other Microsoft programs. Ability and willingness to travel to underdeveloped countries. Fluency in English is required; additional French and/or Spanish language skills desired.
