The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for displaced populations.

NRC started operation in the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2012. We deliver humanitarian assistance in 8 provinces in the sectors of Education, Food Security and livelihoods, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Shelter construction, as well as Information, Counseling and Legal Assistance (ICLA).

The Advocacy and Communication Officer will support the Advocacy and Communication Unit on multiple tasks as described in the Job description and work plan. He/she will contribute to the implementation of the advocacy and communication strategies. He/she will have strong organisational and interpersonal skills, be details and results oriented, flexible and proactive. He/She will be reporting to the Advocacy Manager.

Advocacy and Communication Officer Responsibilities:

Generic responsibilities:

  1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  2. Perform according to the work plan
  3. Assist on projects and support function
  4. Assist on administrative task
  5. Assist on day to day task as delegated
  6. Promote and share ideas for improvement
  7. Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy

Specific responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of NRC Iran advocacy and communication strategies
  • Assist in organising advocacy and communication meetings, trainings, seminars and events to promote wider cooperation with a range of stakeholders
  • Contribute to the production of communication and advocacy written and visual materials (web stories; reports; ToR/Concept note; videos and others) –especially in Farsi
  • Contribute to the production of social media content
  • Conduct research for the advocacy and communication department and contribute to studies, upon request
  • Draft memos and official/unofficial correspondences with a range of stakeholders
  • Ensure translation of documents from English to Farsi and vice-versa
  • Develop administrative tools to facilitate NRC’s communication and advocacy (such as a contact database; calendars of advocacy/com opportunities; lexicon;etc.)
  • Ensure communication generic material is kept up-to-date and available; and maintain an inventory of this material
  • Conduct national and regional media monitoring to identify key developments that may affect NRC’s target beneficiaries (displaced Afghans)
  • Ensure the quality of design and production of visibility and programme communication items and their compliance with NRC and donors’ visibility regulations.
  • Ensure all necessary administrative and logistic procedures (PR; GRN; TR…) to implement the Advocacy and Communication’s activities are fulfilled in a systematic and timely manner.

 Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant educational background
  • Previous working experience in similar positions, in communication or advocacy sectors
  • Knowledge of international humanitarian or development sector is an asset
  • Fluency in Farsi and English, both written and verbal
  • Advanced university degree in communication, international relations, political science or public relations.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in communication, advocacy or public relations.
  • Demonstrated research and excellent verbal and written communication skills -especially in Farsi
  • Experience in using Adobe Photoshop, In Design, illustrator, video-editing software is highly desirable
  • Detail and results orientation and strong organizational skills required
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills required
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
