Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies. It is country-driven and undertakes actions which reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Since its establishment, the GCF has mobilized 10.3 billion USD, accredited 54 entities to channel its resources and approved 43 funding proposals. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries identify their needs, in particular those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts. The GCF’s diverse workforce is advancing its mission from its headquarters in South Korea. The Operations Support Assistant will be responsible for a range of operational and analytical tasks necessary for the Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme (RPSP), including for adaption planning, and the Project Preparation Facility (PPF). Such tasks related to the project cycles of the two support programmes, including submissions, approvals, and disbursements, as well as monitoring and completion in coordination with the Portfolio Management Unit. S/he will support the data management of the support programmes on relevant IT systems. S/he will report to the Head of Support Programmes and support her/his team, and may also support the other areas of work within DCP upon the request of the Director.Duties and responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Head of Support Programmes, s/he will be responsible for but not limited to: • Provide operational support for the processes for submission, review and approval of RPSP and PPF proposals;

• Support the review, approval and initial disbursement processes for RPSP and PPF funding, including through coordination with other divisions and offices within the Secretariat;

• Support compilation and update of information on countries RPSP and PPF activities and on the overall portfolios;

• Support preparations for before, during and after interdivisional, senior management and Board meetings; • Support the preparation and organization of events funded through the RPSP; and

• Any additional operational tasks assigned by the Director or other senior managers of the division. Expected experience and qualifications*

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Master’s degree in economics, finance, sustainable development, climate policy, environmental sciences, law, or related fields is highly desirable;

• Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant work experience. Experience involving climate change programming, climate finance or economics experience is highly desirable; A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered;

• Strong competence and professional autonomy in the use of standard software programmes: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;

• Demonstrated exposure to data management preferred;

• Experience in an international setting is an advantage; and

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position; knowledge of another UN language an advantage.

* The person assessed by the Selection Panel as most suitable for the position will be proposed for appointment. The above criteria should be seen as indicators of the qualifications, experience and skills that will qualify candidates for consideration. Other combinations of academic qualifications and years of experience may be considered. Selection among short-listed candidates will also take into account performance at interview, appropriate testing and references.
