Place in the Organisation

The incumbent of this post is responsible to Field Disease Control Officer and received overall guidance and supervision from Deputy Chief, Field Health Programme and provides technical guidance to all Medical Officers on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent:

•         Undertakes regular visits to UNRWA health centers according to a rotating working schedule in order to examine, treat and follow up on patients referred to him/her by Medical Officers

•         Maintains records of all patients with cardiovascular diseases and other patients referred to him/her at each health center and provides statistical data and relevant information on such patients to the Field Office

•         Plans and directs the in-service training of Medical Officers on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases;

•         Maintains an effective system of referral to, and feedback from, contracted and government hospitals treating refugee patients

•         Ensures that equipment and supplies are maintained and techniques are performed in accordance with standard Agency procedures;

•         Performs such other duties as may be required

Minimum Qualifications

•         A university degree in medicine from a recognized university including an internship of at least twelve-month duration;

•         Advanced degree in internal medicine specialty;

•         A valid governmental license to practice medicine as Internist in the country of duty station.

•         A minimum of six years' experience in internal medicine after obtaining the degree/diploma in this discipline.

•         Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.

•         Strong personality, tactfulness, patience and dedication;

•         Demonstrated ability to organize and implement training programmes and to develop staff,

•         •Ability to work under pressure and cope with heavy workload.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

•         The incumbent is required to travel frequently in the field and area of operations;

•         Possession of a valid driving license in the country of duty station.

Equivalency

When the minimum requirements are not fully met, Field Director for Field Area staff and Director of Human Resources for Headquarters Area staff, in consultation with the concerned supervisor may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.

NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.
