Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers.In most cultures volunteerism is deeply embedded in long- established, ancient traditions of sharing and support within the communities. In this context, UN Volunteers take part in various forms of volunteerism and play a role in development and peace together with co-workers, host agencies and local communities.In all assignments, UN Volunteers promote volunteerism through their action and conduct. Engaging in volunteer activity can effectively and positively enrich their understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between themselves and the people in their host community. Living Conditions

Le Burkina Faso, dont le nom signifie «pays des hommes intègres», se trouve au bord

du Sahel dans le cœur de l'Afrique de l'Ouest. En dépit d'être l'un des pays les plus

pauvres et les moins développés du monde, les Burkinabés sont connus pour leur

hospitalité. Ils ont très peu de ressources naturelles, mais ont réussi à façonner un

pays agréable et culturellement sophistiquée sur le peu qu'ils ont.

Ouagadougou, la capitale, abrite environ 1 million de personnes et combine l'Afrique

moderne et traditionnelle, avec de nombreuses rues pavées, un centre commercial, et

de nombreux grands édifices gouvernementaux. Il y a plusieurs lacs artificiels

(barrages) au bord de Ouagadougou qui servent de réservoirs d'eau de la ville.

Le climat du Burkina Faso est ensoleillé, chaud, sec et poussiéreux. La saison chaude

est de la mi-Février à Juin. La saison des pluies dure généralement de Juin à

Septembre. Les températures commencent à se modérer à la fin Septembre.

Organizational Context & Project Description

Le bureau Pays UNICEF au Burkina Faso soutient le gouvernement et la société civile

pour la mise en œuvre des programmes et des politiques pour la réalisation des droits

de l'enfant et de la femme.

Le bureau est composé de 6 sections de Programme: Protection de l’enfant,

Education, Santé et Nutrition, Politiques Sociales et PME, Communication pour le

Développement (C4D) et Eau, Hygiène et Assainissement (WASH). Les sections de

Communication Extérieure et Plaidoyer et les Operations (Ressources Humains,

Finances, Administration, ICT et Approvisionnaient) soutiennent le Programme.

La période d’affectation sera très intéressante pour l’apprentissage du/dela volontaire

19 Feb 2018 Page 2 of 8 parce que le bureau commence un nouveau programme de pays pour 2018-2020 et la communication externe et le plaidoyer y occupent une place très importante.

Le volontaire devra travailler en étroite collaboration avec des collègues des autres

sections, des agences des Nations Unies et des partenaires d’exécution de l’UNICEF.

Task description

Sous la supervision directe de la responsable de la Communication Externe et

Plaidoyer et en prenant connaissance de la stratégie de communication externe et de

plaidoyer de l'UNICEF ainsi que de la stratégie de communication externe et de

plaidoyer de l'UNICEF au Burkina Faso le/la Volontaire des Nations Unies effectuera

les tâches suivantes :

Contribuer à la production de contenu cela inclura la production d’histoires à

caractère humain et le suivi de la production de contenus de haute qualité (articles,

vidéos, de photos et de contenu audio)

Contribuer à la visibilité des bailleurs nationalement et internationalement

Garantir que les donateurs sont informés de l’impact de leur contribution auprès

des communautés en partageant articles, newsletters, photos stories en anglais à

travers divers canaux dont les rapports au donateurs

Le/la titulaire du poste aura des interactions régulières avec les sections de

programme et les collègues de terrain pour collecter des documents et créer des

contenus de qualité et innovants en anglais et en français pour exposer les

interventions de développement et d’action humanitaire.

Participer à la promotion de l’image de marque et accompagner les efforts de

plaidoyer par la collecte d’images de qualité, l’édition de publications en anglais

sur les plateformes de communications externes et internes.

Participer à la mise en œuvre des stratégies de communication classique et

numérique lancées par le bureau de pays et le siège pour porter les questions des

enfants et des femmes dans le domaine public et améliorer la crédibilité et l’image

de marque de l’organisation.

Suivre l’évolution des tendances en matière de création de contenu afin de rester

19 Feb 2018 Page 3 of 8 au fait des techniques et outils innovants. Participer à l’organisation d’évènements pour assurer la visibilité de l’UNICEF

Effectuer régulièrement des visites sur le terrain. Les visites de terrain sont

polyvalentes : pour réaliser des reportages écrits et photos, accompagner les

visites des bailleurs de fonds et les autres visites de haut niveau, participer à des

ateliers, appuyer l’organisation de formations avec les partenaires…

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:- Strengthen their knowledge and

understanding of the concept of volunteerismby reading relevant UNV and external

publications and take active part in UNVactivities (for instance in events that mark

International Volunteer Day)- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local

forms ofvolunteerism in the host country- Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary

action that they areundertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities-

Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for

UNVpublications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.- Assist with the UNV

Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers- Promote or advise local groups in

the use of online volunteering, orencourage relevant local individuals and organizations

to use the UNV OnlineVolunteering service whenever technically possible.

Conditions of Service for International Specialist:

The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to

availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there

is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.

A UN Volunteer receives a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) which is composed of the

Monthly Living Allowance (MLA) and a Family Allowance (FA) for those with dependents

(maximum three).

The Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is paid at the end of each month to cover housing,

utilities, transportation, communications and other basic needs. The VLA can be

computed by applying the Post-Adjustment Multiplier (PAM) to the VLA base rate of US$

1,602. The VLA base rate is a global rate across the world, while the PAM is duty

station/country-specific and fluctuates on a monthly basis according to the cost of living.

This method ensures that international UN Volunteers have comparable purchasing power

at all duty stations irrespective of varying costs of living. The PAM is established by the

International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) and is published at the beginning of every

In non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the

ICSC, international UN Volunteers receive a Well-Being Differential (WBD) on a monthly

basis.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are provided a settling-in-grant (SIG) at the start of the

assignment (if the volunteer did not reside in the duty station for at least 6 months prior to

taking up the assignment) and in the event of a permanent reassignment to another duty

station.

UNV provides life, health, permanent disability insurances as well as assignment travel,

annual leave, full integration in the UN security framework (including residential security

reimbursements).

UN Volunteers are paid Daily Subsistence Allowance at the UN rate for official travels,

flight tickets for periodic home visit and for the final repatriation travel (if applicable).

Resettlement allowance is paid for satisfactory service at the end of the assignment.

UNV will provide, together with the offer of assignment, a copy of the Conditions of

Service, including Code of conduct, to the successful candidate.
