Based in Washington, D.C.

Who we are

With over 45 years of experience, working in over 60 countries, Population Services International (PSI) is the world's leading non-profit social marketing organization. PSI is reimagining healthcare, by putting the consumer at the center, and wherever possible – bringing care to the front door. We are working to fix market failures, shape future health markets and shift policy and funding to better support consumer empowered healthcare.

There are over 8,000 “PSI'ers” around the world. We are a diverse group of entrepreneurial development professionals with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. All with unique skills that we bring to the critically important work that we do.

Be part of something powerful and different.

Join us!

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, dynamic Knowledge Management Advisor to help strengthen knowledge management to ensure efficient and effective reuse of information internally and externally. This post will be shared between the marketing and family planning/reproductive (FP/RH) health teams, establishing mechanisms to ensure the smooth flow and use of information by both teams and across PSI to allow stakeholders access to information that will increase quality and effectiveness of our work.

The Marketing Department supports PSI's goal of making it easy for our target audience and her family to adopt healthy behaviors. We place the needs, interests and engagement of our audience at the heart of all of our efforts. To achieve this, the marketing team has developed a consumer-centric, market focused approach underpinned by commercial marketing principles and grounded in deep health area expertise. The marketing team supports the design and execution of sustainable and scalable solutions tailored to our audience's needs that shapes market systems for sustainable impact. The team supports all health areas and regions to execute marketing discipline in program design and execution with a renewed focus toward assessment, capture and dissemination of lessons learned and replicable models throughout PSI's network.

The Family Planning (FP) and Reproductive Health (RH) Department supports programs in 37 countries (and counting) to deliver high-quality family planning and safe abortion services to women and girls. We protect our clients' sexual & reproductive health rights by ensuring informed choice, voluntarism, client confidentiality & privacy, client safety and continuity of care. A flagship program within the FP&RH department is Support for International Family Planning and Health Organizations 2: Sustainable Networks (SIFPO2). This five-year USAID-funded program is designed to strengthen family planning programs and other health services worldwide, with a focus on strengthening private sector channels including social franchise networks.

Your contribution

As Knowledge Management Advisor you will be responsible for creating a knowledge sharing culture within PSI, starting with the Marketing and FP/RH departments, to allow more effective decision-making and to accelerate success. You will also work closely with External Relations and Communication (ERC) to ensure strategic reuse of information by external audiences. This requires efficient, effective and smooth flow of pertinent information (e.g., results, successes, challenges, lessons learned, tools, templates) to allow each stakeholder access to information that will allow him/her to perform more effectively.

You will:

  • Design, deliver and manage a KM approach for both the marketing and FP/RH teams, which can be standardized with other departments. This will be tightly integrated with the new program design process that is currently being developed for roll-out in 2018.
  • Coordinate the creation, curation, exchange and promotion of learning derived from the Marketing Department and its work in FP/RH to shape market systems, shift policy and funding and strengthen global capacity to deliver improved consumer empowered healthcare. This will begin specifically with the FP/RH team, however, the learning will be disseminated throughout PSI. Specific tasks include:
    • Coordinate and manage the preparation and dissemination of strategically packaged knowledge products (presentations, briefs, case studies, etc)
    • In coordination with External Relations and Communications (ERC), identify the best dissemination channel(s) to support reuse of information internally and externally (e.g. website, online training, virtual collaborative exchanges symposiums, conferences, e-newsletters, social media).
    • Establish relationships with the wider external partner community and donors with a view to raising visibility of PSI's marketing discipline as it applies to family planning and other health areas
  • Promote and enable an active learning culture within the marketing and FP/RH teams and wider PSI audience. Specifically:
    • Serve as champion and coordinator for knowledge exchange, reflection and learning opportunities within the FP and marketing teams
    • Foster strong relationships with key staff from the relevant internal and external audiences to streamline and maximize knowledge exchange
    • Ensure the marketing and FP/RH teams have the skills and motivation to support knowledge management, through maintaining system-wide training and resource materials
  • Leverage PSI technology platforms (such as O365, DHIS2, and Degreed) in the appropriate context to expedite knowledge storage, retrieval and exchange
  • Determine metrics of successes for knowledge management activities, and track progress. Effectively communicate the results and impact.
  • Coordinate and support specific global conference opportunities to disseminate lessons and tell the PSI story.

  • Substantial understanding of knowledge management theory, practice and tools.

  • Experience in international public health programming.
  • Exposure and experience in multiple countries preferred.
  • Experience working in FP/R or related areas preferred.
  • Ability to use computer systems and effectively organize information on internal and external websites
