Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global clim ate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low -emission and climate -resilient societies. It is country -driven and undertakes actions which reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its naio tnal aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Since its establishment, the GCF has mobilized 10.3 billion USD, accredited 54 entities to channel its resources and approved 43 funding proposals. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries identify their needs, in particular those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts. The GCF’s diverse workforce is advancing its mission from its headquarters in South Korea. Position description

The Deputy Director, Adaptation Coordinator will provide management support to the Director of the Division, lead the adaptation window of the Fund and will have fundamental knowledge on the areas of adaptation to the impacts of climate change and economic assessment of adaptation options. She/he will work closely with developing countries and national teams by providing substantive guidance on methodological matters and technical inputs to proposed activities in the area of adaptation.Duties and responsibilities

• Coordinate the pipeline preparation of projects leading to Board submission;

• Working closely with the Division of Country Programming, coordinate engagement with countries and accredited entities to improve the quality of submitted project proposals to the Fund; • Support the Director in corporate tasks, including coordinating representation, reporting, administration, and other relevant tasks;

• Leading the preparation of documents, reports, operational guidelines, tools and other products, as requested by the Board and/or the Executive Director, taking into account Conference of the Parties (COP) guidance to the Fund with respect to adaptation;

• Leading the establishment and monitoring of an adaptation activity pipeline and portfolio, includin g reporting on the progress, determining trends and level of commitment of available resources in the adaptation window of the Fund;

• Providing support to the implementation of the results management framework for adaptation, including by supporting further refinement and development of appropriate indicators for adaptation activities; • Leading the knowledge management on the Fund’s adaptation activities;

• Participating in the review of funding proposals, including the provision of guidance on the developmen t of proposals;

• Maintaining an overview of the portfolio implementation performance under the adaptation window; • Supervise adaptation technical expert staff of the Division;

• Managing day-to-day work to ensure adaptation window objectives are achieved;

• Liaising closely with internal and external partners to fully understand the business requirements and deliverables of projects and programmes.

Expected experience and qualifications*

• Master’s degree in engineering, economics, environmental studies, or another relevant field; • At least 15 years of post- university degree, relevant professional work experience with evidence of project management experience in relevant sectors and areas where adaptation is a priority in developing countries (e.g. water management, agriculture, disaster risk management, etc.);

• Previous field experience carrying out climate change adaptation initiatives or related interventions, preferably including the work in developing countries;

• Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality;

• Ability to contribute to the project/programme strategy and recommend options/approaches to projects/programmes;

• Previous experience at relevant international organizations and regional organizations is a plus; and • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position; knowledge of another UN language an advantage.
