UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

Developing innovative technologies to support the work of child protection and gender-based violence specialists in such situations is a central part of UNICEF’s strategic goal to enhance protections for women and children. UNICEF’s Child Protection Strategy focuses on strengthening the social welfare workforce, and leveraging technology to ensure children are protected in emergencies. Primero is key to this strategy as it fosters greater efficiency and reach of UNICEF and partner’s protection programming, including GBV, adolescent-focused programmes, children in contact with the law, children affected by armed conflict, and unaccompanied and separated children.

Primero is a modern, browser-based open source application that is flexible and highly configurable. Primero supports multiple modules to facilitate information management for different types of child protection and GBV programmes. These modules include the CPIMS+ and the GBVIMS+. Primero has granular, role-based access, so that only those who need to see information have access to it.

Making data handling easier yet safe and ethical for front-line protection and social welfare workers can allow more time for service provision and improve the quality of care.  As UNICEF’s Child Protection and GBV teams reach vulnerable women and children through service providers, the best way to impact their healing is to strengthen the way that service providers engage with and care for them. Primero is designed for this purpose.

For every child, a new idea
