We are looking for an energetic and autonomous individual to join us as a Humanitarian Economic Programming  Advisor  delivering high quality, timely and accountable humanitarian Economic Programming responses which ensure children and their families have the necessary means to cope during crises in order for children to continue enjoying their right to be educated, protected and to be healthy.

Our Humanitarian team integrates its action with development work. It supports children and their families cope in adverse time and help them recover. Together with other teams, we save children’s lives and help them fulfil their potential.

As Humanitarian Economic Programming Advisor you will work on adapting our multi-sectoral programmatic approaches in the context of increased focus on cash and economic programming. This will support the provision of a more nuanced, adaptive package of support for children in Save the Children’s humanitarian response. This position builds on a strong history of delivering Food Security and Livelihoods programming and promoting a livelihoods approach to programming across sectors. Through the introduction of Economic Programming Advisors we aim to ensure that all multi-sectoral response plans address the all aspects of child poverty. As Humanitarian Economic Programming Advisor, you will also:

  • Adapt guidance and standards to contexts and develop related training material
  • Contribute to strategy development, programme policy, innovation and learning both at a country level and a regional level within Save the Children UK and SCI
  • Work in collaboration with the head of the cash and economic programming unit to assess the feasibility of innovation and global discussions to improve economic programming more broadly for children in humanitarian contexts
  • Develop and maintain a database of consultants and staff who could be deployed to support the team in humanitarian contexts.

To be successful in this role you will be motivated by the desire to make a difference to children’s lives and be flexible so that you have the ability to travel at short notice and to remote locations, up to 50% of the time. You will have strong communication skills so that you have the ability to work across sectors, to communicate at a high level and work holistically. Politically minded, with humanitarian experience and experience analysing the impact on children, you will have:

  • Proven experience in planning and delivering high quality humanitarian programmes and an understanding of multiple sectors as they relate to cash and economic programming.
  • Experience in market analysis and livelihoods analysis in at least two types of contexts
  • Highly developed technical writing skills, both at programmatic level and at policy level
  • Experience of strategic development and implementation
  • An academic/professional qualification at post graduate level or equivalent in anthropology, economy, sociology, development or a related subject
  • A broad understanding of rights and development issues, international relations, government operations and the international humanitarian systems is desirable.
