Organizational Setting

The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW) comprises the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section, the Waste Technology Section, the Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation Section and the Research Reactor Section. The Division seeks to support Member States in building their capacity to access technologies, to share good practices and to develop safe and effective approaches across all aspects of research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle, decommissioning, radioactive waste management and environmental remediation.


The Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section (NFCMS) assists interested Member States in the development of safe, environmentally friendly, economically viable, proliferation-resistant and sustainable fuel cycle options and it encourages information exchange on the exploration, mining and processing of uranium and thorium, on the design, manufacturing and performance of nuclear fuels, on the management of spent fuel, and on the development of advanced and innovative nuclear fuels and fuel cycles.


Main Purpose

As a member of the team led by the Team Leader of the Nuclear Fuel Engineering, the Fuel Cycle Facilities Specialist leads project activities focused on the areas of nuclear fuel cycle facilities operation and life management (from the front to the back-end), through organizing Consultancy and Technical Meetings, training programmes and Workshops; maintaining the database on nuclear fuel cycle facilities (NFCIS); coordinating and evaluating coordinated research projects (CRPs), preparing state-of-the-art reports and IAEA Nuclear Energy Series documents; and supporting technical cooperation (TC), developing innovative tools to share and disseminate information.


Role

The Fuel Cycle Facilities Specialist is\: (i) a programme developer and implementer, contributing specialized knowledge and experience to the planning and development of the IAEA's programme; (ii) a scientific secretary/technical expert, planning and leading Consultancy and Technical Meetings, developing IAEA Nuclear Energy Series documents and monitoring information database; (iii) a technical and project officer, assessing and assisting TC projects, and promoting, coordinating and evaluating coordinated research projects (CRPs); and (iv) an adviser to senior managers on significant project related issues.


Functions / Key Results Expected

- The Fuel Cycle Facilities Specialist develops new approaches and policies by contributing specialized knowledge and experience to the planning, development and implementation of the IAEA's activities, and to the collection of international recommendations and guidance on the operation and life management of nuclear fuel cycle facilities (I&C, quality control measurements, environmental impact, etc.), with a view to addressing Member States' specific needs.

- He/she plans and leads moderately complex Technical Meetings on nuclear fuel cycle facilities operation and life management, monitors database on nuclear fuel cycle facilities information and develops innovative tools to increase efficiency, strengthen impact and reach-out of Agency’s work. He/she proactively promotes, coordinates and evaluates moderately complex CRPs in Member States and conducts moderately complex studies and assessments related to issues and trends.

- He/she evaluates moderately complex TC projects, and proactively plans, organizes and participates in seminars, workshops, expert missions and training courses.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

- Master's Degree - Advanced university degree in nuclear engineering, chemistry, physics or materials science.

- At least seven years of hands-on (operational) experience in the operation and/or life -management of nuclear fuel cycle facilities (front to back-end), of which five years at international level.

- At least two years of experience in the management of complex operational projects at international level.

- Excellent oral and written command of English.


Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $71332 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 37592, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
