Job Summary

The position of Technical Adviser, Family Planning, sits in the Commodity Security Branch (CSB), and reports to the Chief, CSB, Technical Division (TD).

Job Purpose

UNFPA current strategic direction defines its work around three transformative and people-centred results in the period leading up to 2030. These include: (a) an end to preventable maternal deaths; (b) an end to the unmet need for family planning; and (c) an end to gender-based violence and all harmful practices, including female genital mutilation and child, early and forced marriage. The Commodity Security Branch (CSB) of the Technical Division (TD) provides input into and leads UNFPA policy and  technical agenda on Family Planning in this context.
 
The Technical Adviser, Family Planning works under the overall direction and leadership of the Chief, CSB. The Technical Adviser, Family Planning provides technical support and leadership in the implementation of the corporate Family Planning Strategy and Strategic Plan, and management of strategic technical support on norms and standards to ensure the delivery of sustainable, country-driven, action plans on rights-based family planning in the context of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights.

Technical Representation
 

Education: 

Post-graduate University Degree or equivalent in public health, medicine, sociology, demography, economics, international relations, international development, public administration, management or other related field. The graduate or post graduate degree must be directly related to the substantive area identified in the title of the post.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 10 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the substantive technical area, of which seven years at the international level;
  • An acknowledged expert and recognized authority in the technical area;
  • Strong track record of technical leadership, and proven ability to produce demonstrable results;
  • Strong technical knowledge and expertise in FP & SRH;
  • Proven ability to produce demonstrable results;
  • Extensive network within the development community;
  • Demonstrated leadership in the area of FP & SRH;
  • Field experience is strongly desirable;

Languages:

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
