The Protection Coordinator will provide overall technical leadership to all aspects of DRC’s protection programming in Jordan. This will include overall technical strategy development and coordination between relevant projects and proposals as well as oversight on program tool development, including SOPs, work plans, and trainings for direct program beneficiaries. The Protection Coordinator will represent DRC in relevant internal and external coordination forums ensuring high-visibility of DRC Jordan’s protection portfolio and providing technical leadership among peer organizations; 
 
 
About the job 
 
The individual will report directly to Head of Program. Your main duties and responsibilities will be: 
 
Program Strategy & New Project Development: 
• Support the contextual revision and roll out of the DRC Jordan Country Action Plan, ensuring it is supported by a country protection strategy which provides strong rationale for programmatic priorities and reflects the evolving nature of the Syrian conflict and humanitarian space in Jordan, especially as they impact vulnerable individuals; 
• Lead the ongoing strengthening of protection mainstreaming in all phases of DRC’s projects; 
• Proactively engage in bilateral coordination with local and international NGOs as well as with international public organizations to refine, expand and strengthen DRC’s referral and information assistance and partner networks; 
• Contribute and lead the technical design and review of concept notes, logical frameworks, budgets and full proposals in relevant technical sectors; 
• Support Program Quality Department in rolling out qualitative monitoring and evaluation approaches aiming to build contextually-grounded learning into program activities; 
• Visit program activities and provide support and feedback to staff and implementing partners on program approaches and methodological issues. 
• Maintain technical links with DRC Regional and HQ counterparts to ensure that  
• DRC Jordan programmatic priorities align with and respond to global learning.  
 
Team management Technical Support: 
• Manage DRC Jordan’s Protection Unit and provide team members with technical guidance and support through regular coordination meetings; 
• Mentor and support the Protection team through regular one-to-one supervision and performance appraisals; 
• Arrange fortnightly staff meetings; 
• Provide technical support to Project Managers and ensure the Protection Unit conducts regular field visits to support field teams. 
• Ensure all protection tools, SoPs and guidelines are regularly updated. 
• Ensure the Protection Unit provides regular training and awareness sessions to ensure quality protection project implementation and protection mainstreaming; 
• Support members of the Protection Unit to conduct field or shadow visits and advise on protection concerns; 
• Provide Strategic protection budget supervision and support to project managers. 
 
Coordination, Representation & Advocacy: 
• Represent DRC at technical coordination forums as agreed with the HoP; 
• Maintain close working relationships with technical leads within DRC Jordan, MENA, and HQ to ensure strategy and implementation coherence with overall objectives; 
• Take part in monthly PM meetings as requested by HoP; 
• Lead in the development of DRC Jordan’s advocacy strategy and setup advocacy plan for the period 2018-2020 in line with objectives fixed in DRC Jordan’s CAP; 
• Take active role in pushing DRC’s protection advocacy messages in relevant coordination forums. 
 
 
About you 
 
At least five years proven and successful track record in international protection and/or human rights; 
 
Moreover, we also expect the following:  
 
Required / Desirable 
• Master degree in one of the following: International development, social sciences, international relations, human rights 
• Proven experience in protection programing in a post emergency context, community development and/or legal or human rights programming;  
• Experience with team management and technical support; 
• Experience with project cycle management and project management tools such as logical frameworks, work plans, and monitoring plans. 
• Experience taking technical lead on assessments 
• High integrity and willingness to conduct her/himself transparently and open to scrutiny 
• Previous experience working in MENA region 
• Ability to communicate technical information in an easy to understand, informative and collaborative manner 
• Good knowledge of the Core Humanitarian Standards or other accountability measures/standards  
• Fluency in English

Contract length: 6 month contract including three months as probation period, renewable based on both funding and performance.
