ECW is looking for a Planning Specialist to provide coordination and support to ECW’s work planning and governance operations, working closely with members of the ECW Secretariat and external stakeholders, and ensuring adherence to ECW’s established rules and procedures. The post holder will provide expert advice and coordination to all aspects of ECW’s corporate work planning and to activities related to donor due diligence, governance and knowledge management.

Education Cannot Wait (ECW) is a UNICEF hosted fund dedicated to education in emergencies and protracted crises. It was established in 2016 during the World Humanitarian Summit by international humanitarian and development aid organizations, along with public and private donors, to help reposition education as a priority on the humanitarian agenda, usher in a more collaborative approach among actors on the ground and foster additional funding to ensure that every crisis-affected child and young person is in school and learning. How can you make a difference?

The main purpose of this job is to provide coordination and support to ECW's work planning and governance operations, working closely with members of the ECW Secretariat and external stakeholders, and ensuring adherence to ECW's established rules and procedures. The post holder will provide expert advice and coordination to all aspects of ECW's corporate work planning and to activities related to donor due diligence, governance and knowledge management.

Main activities:

  • Support the ECW Secretariat's planning and coordination
  • Support ECW's governance structure - its High-Level Steering Group and Executive Committee - including through preparations for and organization of regular meetings
  • Support the ECW Secretariat's accountability and reporting
  • Lead ECW's information management

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master's or higher) in one or more of the following disciplines: international development, international relations, social sciences, business or public administration, government, public policy, or other related fields.
    *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in planning or coordination, preferably in a United Nations or development organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in being able to develop and maintain effective working relations with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to set out and deliver systems and frameworks to support effective planning and coordination, with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work in a lean structure, which requires flexibility, proactivity and ability to respond to tight deadlines with a good attention to detail.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish), preferably French or Arabic, is an asset.
