The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Finance Directorate (FI) – Capital Markets Department (CAP) – Investor Relations & Marketing Division, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a:

(Associate) Investor Relations Officer

This is a full time position at grade 4/5

The term of this contract will be 4 years

Panel interviews are anticipated for beginning mid/end August.

The EIB offers fixed-term contracts of up to a maximum of 6 years, according to business needs,

with a possibility to convert to a permanent contract, subject to organisational requirements and individual performance.

Purpose

The main purpose is to conduct analysis, marketing and briefing to support EIB's funding. The role involves evaluating and communicating developments for EIB bonds and the context of debt capital markets more generally, including communication with rating agencies. It includes extensive work on Green Bonds. Also, it will require analysis, marketing and briefing to support EIB's credit standing. Responsibility for managing and further developing analytics and reporting from the investor / dealer relationship database, could also be assigned.

Operating Network

As Investor Relations Officer, internally referred to as “Associate Officer Funding”, you  will report to the Head of Division.  You will have regular contact with colleagues in other Directorates, notably internally with the Funding/origination teams and risk management. You will also cooperate with teams including financial control, lending, legal and communications. You will be expected to interact with senior management as well. Externally contacts that are of special relevance to this role are investors, rating agencies (financial and non-financial), credit analysts, dealers and capital markets-related audiences

Specific Post Environment (if applicable)

Investor relations and marketing division facilitates and contributes to delivery of the EIB investor relations (IR) and marketing activities in capital markets worldwide, in support of the EIB's debt issuance, which is one of the world's largest and most wide-ranging debt issuance programs.

Given the public impact and multiple customers of IR function, accuracy and speed of execution are a requirement, which result in the need to manage several working streams at a time, while respecting tight deadlines.

For the same reasons, in order to obtain and process relevant information you will need to be able to liaise smoothly and efficiently with other functions in the organisation  so as to maintain a hands-on and client-service mentality.  

Accountabilities

Among your responsibilities will be:

  • Ratings/ credit analysis: Act as one of the operational contacts for rating agencies and other credit analysts. Monitor rating trends and brief internally on developments / potential implications. Prepare and attend external presentations. Bring new ideas to optimise EIB's credit positioning. 
  • External marketing materials: Substantially contribute to drafting materials such as funding newsletters and fact sheets. Support organisation of marketing events, in particular those involving green bonds, including preparation of briefing material
  • Green bonds coverage: Contribute to developing marketing materials and website on green bonds and climate action, including newsletters, presentations and updates of impact reporting. Conduct research/reporting on green bond market developments and analysis to support the Bank’s participation in Green/Social/Sustainable Principles activities. Participate in internal and external working groups on climate action and ESG. Analysis of ESG rating reports with a view to improving EIB’s positioning, in cooperation with other IR staff and Corporate Social Responsibility team.
  • Investor meetings: Develop and draft the presentation materials, including credit story and data/commentary on EIB funding results and capital markets context. Plan and participate in, selected roadshows and conferences, in collaboration with funding officials. 
  • Briefings: Contribute to management briefings for external marketing events. 
  • Internal reporting: Contribute to a variety of internal reporting. 
  • Information systems:  Improve the Client Relationship Management (CRM) database used for Investor Relations and represent the department in IT related initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Strategy: Contribute to planning and evaluation of EIB investor marketing. 

Qualifications

  • 3 years' relevant experience in finance / investor relations / related areas of research, including particular experience on rating agencies/green bonds /SRI investment / sustainable capital markets
  • Strong IT skills, including excellent practical knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and ideally Business Objects. Experience with macros will be a plus.
  • Knowledge of market platforms, e.g. Bloomberg, FK
  • Excellent knowledge of English and/or French(*), with a good command of the other. (Knowledge of other EU languages such as German would be an advantage).

(*) There may be certain flexibility on this requirement, but limited to particularly suitable candidates who may not yet be proficient in French. If selected, such candidates will be hired on the condition that they build up rapidly knowledge of French and accept that their future career in the EIB may be subject to the attainment of sufficient proficiency in both of the Bank's working languages
