DESCRIPTION

Iraq Program

ICMP is implementing a multi-year project in Iraq to support authorities in their efforts to account for persons missing as a result of armed conflict and violations of human rights.

Vacancy Background

The Assistant/Interpreter/Translator will be based in Erbil, with occasional travel throughout Iraq. The successful candidate will provide administrative, programmatic and linguistic support to the CSI Iraq Program on the issue of missing persons, with a focus on the implementation of the Small Grants Cycle (SGC). The position is for a period of six months with a possibility of extension.

 

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the CSI Program Officer, the duties of the assistant will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Provide interpreting and translation from Kurdish and Arabic to English and vice versa at various events and in the office;
  • Prepare written translations of training materials, proposals, e-mails, correspondence, receipts, forms and all other documents relevant to the program from Kurdish and Arabic to English and vice versa;
  • Maintain close communication with Civil Society Organizations (CSO) to follow-up on the accomplishment of deadlines of each stage of the SGC;
  • Assist the supervisor in organizing and providing administrative support to CSI trainings, seminars, meetings and other programmatic related activities and events;
  • Act as a point of referral and advice, answering enquiries from CSOs during application and implementation of the SGC;
  • Create and manage the SGC files and shared folders;
  • Monitor the SGC e-mail account to guarantee timely response to queries and appropriate support to CSOs in each stage of the SGC;
  • Other duties related duties as requested.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Secondary school education
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in administrative support for program implementation;
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience of providing translation / interpretation services;
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken English, Arabic and Kurdish languages is required;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point;
  • Experience in liaising with CSOs and grass roots organizations;
  • An interest in, and basic knowledge of the work of ICMP;
  • Discretion, tact and confidentiality in all matters; Attention to detail;
  • Political sensitivity.

  • Proven ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality or gender;
  • Willingness to travel and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings, when necessary;
  • Commitment to the underlying objective of assisting the authorities and families of the missing in locating and identifying missing persons in an impartial and transparent manner.
