Based in Seoul, The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is an intergovernmental organization founded to support and promote a model of economic growth known as "green growth", which targets key aspects of economic performance such a poverty reduction, job creation, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. GGGI works with countries around the world, building their capacity and working collaboratively on green growth policies that can impact the lives of millions. The organization partners with countries, multilateral institutions, government bodies, and private sector to help build economies that grow strongly and are more efficient and sustainable in the use of natural resources, less carbon intensive, and more resilient to climate change.

The Governance Department, Office of the Director-General, is responsible for effective and efficient functioning of GGGI’s Governance Organs, including the Assembly, Council and the Management and Program Sub-Committee (MPSC). It also functions as the Office of the President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council and maintains a portfolio of specific outreach targets for some countries including the Host Country, the Republic of Korea.

The objective of the internship is to give you a first-hand experience of the day-to-day working at GGGI. The Internship Program is a project-oriented learning opportunity for graduate students to gain experience through research assignments based on GGGI’s current operational needs. GGGI welcomes motivated, open-minded, and self-directed individuals to apply. You will be given an opportunity to work directly with outstanding and inspiring Green Growth professionals, participate in workshops and meetings, and contribute to analytical work as well as innovative rethinking on sustainable green growth. Interns will be selected based on merit and cannot be children or siblings of current GGGI staff members.

 

Can you be a GGGI intern?

Are you enrolled in a Master's or in a Ph.D. program, or in the final year of a Bachelor’s program?
Have you completed Bachelor’s, Masters or PHD Degree in last 12 months?
Are you between a first degree and graduate school (gap year)?
Do you have excellent command of English?

Things to keep in mind for interns:

Duration: The internship program lasts for at least three months and can be as long as six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.
Cost: GGGI interns are paid USD$500 per month. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visas. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.
Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.
Medical insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI.
Confidentiality: Interns must be discreet and keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.

Current Opportunity

We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the Governance Department, Office of the Director-General, as an intern to learn by doing while providing support to the work of the Department. The intern will be exposed to and gain in-depth experience in the following areas: 1) the inner workings of governance organs of an intergovernmental organization; 2) the methods and tools to organize official Governance Organ meetings and events; 3) the coordination process between internal and external stakeholders and partners; 4) the maintenance and management of databases, parliamentary documentation and official correspondence; 5) conducting research on government officials, policies and practices; and 6) cross-cutting issues and activities of the GGGI.

 

The assignment will include the following but not limited to:

Database management: manage databases for contacts, event registrations, documents and files;
Coordination support: support for Governance Organ events and activities with internal and external partners;
Research support:
Meeting minutes: take minutes of meetings and draft summaries of proceedings for record and/or distribution;
General administrative support: perform other administrative duties as required.
Research news, official appointments, issues, profiles/bios, contact details and other records/facts of importance to GGGI; and
With guidance from Governance Department supervisors, discuss and design a long-term research project that will be beneficial to both the Institute and the intern;

Qualification

The candidate should be enrolled in a Master's or a Ph.D. program, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Masters or Ph.D. Degree in the last 12 months.
