(under FEMIP Trust Fund Internship Program)

Duration:  6 months (with possible extension for a total of up to 12 months)

(fixed start date: 1st February 2019)

The Program, set up with the support of the EIB’s FEMIP Trust Fund (FTF), is only open to young nationals of the EU Southern Neighborhood countries that have entered into a Framework Agreement with the EIB (Algeria, Egypt, Palestine*, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia).

Objective of the traineeship

One of EER’s key objectives is to improve the communication of impact-related information between the External Offices and the Bank’s headquarters. The trainee will assist in monitoring and assessing existing intelligence reports, in order to have a clear view on the current situation. Furthermore, s/he will contribute to the drafting of a document that entails the importance of Intelligence Gathering (IG) for the Bank and the ways to obtain relevant information. These recommendations are meant to assist the EIB’s External Heads of Offices (HoOs) in the IG objective.

The trainee will have to update and further develop the EER Intranet pages by liaising with various services at HQ as well as colleagues in the External Offices. These Intranet pages aim at promoting the imperative part EER takes in the EIB’s External Network’s role, and to emphasize the significance of External Representation for the Bank, both from an operational point of view, and from an institutional one.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Head of Division and the Deputy Head of Division in charge of the External Relations section, and in cooperation with other members of the team, the Trainee will contribute to intelligence-gathering through the external offices and dissemination of information to relevant departments across the Bank. In particular, he/she will:

  • Support the “intelligence gathering” work of the external offices and help source impact-related information relevant to EIB activities across the world
  • Analyse and report on information obtained
  • Contribute to the preparation of notes and briefings for EIB management
  • Liaise with the different geographical departments of the Operations Directorate

Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • University degree in a relevant domain such as Political Science, Economics or Finance
  • Knowledge of the EU and the international institutional and political framework
  • Understanding of the EIB Group’s operations and policies, including its external office activities
  • Experience of market intelligence type activities would be useful
  • Knowledge of standard computer tools, in particular Word and Excel
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English + French

The FTF Internship Program is open to students and recent graduates (with no more than two years of working experience) who have a single nationality of the Southern Neighborhood countries that have entered into a Framework Agreement with the EIB - Algeria, Egypt, Palestine*, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia. The goal of the Program is to offer successful candidates an opportunity to improve their skills as well as the experience of working in an international multicultural environment.
