Credit Risk Officer

This is a full time temporary position at grade 4/5

The term of this contract will be 1 year; as this is a temporary replacement assignment, no extension or conversion of the contract is foreseen

Panel interviews are anticipated for mid-December / beginning of January.

The EIB offers fixed-term contracts of up to a maximum of 6 years, according to business needs,

with a possibility to convert to a permanent contract, subject to organisational requirements and individual performance.

Purpose

To provide credit opinions on proposed new operations and changes of existing operations, in accordance with the bank’s Credit Risk Guidelines (CRG) and with the aim of maintaining the credit quality of a highly diversified portfolio of transactions.  CRO will also propose and participate in discussions on changes to the CRG, contribute to the on-going development of internal rating methodologies and departmental procedures.  The work is dynamic, covering a broad range of transaction types in diverse geographical locations.

Operating Network

You will report to the Head of Unit, and will work in close cooperation with the other Division members.

You will have extensive contacts with colleagues in Risk Management, Front Office Lending, Transaction Monitoring, Legal Department as well as, occasionally, with external counterparts.

You will also maintain contact with Rating Agencies, and other relevant external information sources.

Specific Post Environment

The RISK Management (RM) Directorate is the EIB’s independent risk assessment team for new and existing lending, funding and treasury operations. RM provides policies, second opinions on individual proposals, an EIB-wide portfolio view and reporting, seeking to apply Best Banking Practices. Within RM the PFI division provides credit opinions on projects within Public Sector Entities and Financial Institutions.

Accountabilities

Among your responsibilities will be to:

  • Independently evaluate and monitor the credit risk associated with loans and guarantees in standard and structured operations, in line with guidelines and procedures for the department. This includes:
    • Assess credit risk, formulate opinions on credit proposals, review and validate counterpart ratings and credit limits, and establish risk pricing.
    • Propose security/collateral requirements and risk mitigating clauses.
    • Review legal documentation from a credit risk standpoint.
    • Coordinate with other operational departments in structuring and mitigating credit risk.
    • Closely follow and report on counterparts/transactions requiring special attention.
  • Check the quality and correctness of credit risk related data input into various IT systems.
  • Take care of credit risk related enquiries from within the Bank and provide solutions.
  • Ensure good relationships with internal clients and appropriate internal cooperation and communication.
  • Maintain awareness of latest developments and share learning and innovation on risk management methodologies within RM and in the Bank.

Qualifications

  • University degree, preferably in finance, business administration or law.
  • Post-graduate education would be an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in credit risk assessment of and/or lending to banks and/or the public sector.
  • Proficiency in analysing the credit risk of financial institutions or public sector counterparts.
  • Experience with credit risk assessment methodologies and rating agency criteria.
  • Knowledge of the Bank’s standard computer applications, as well as the specific IT applications supporting operations.
  • Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of any other EU language would be an advantage.
