UNICEF China Health, Nutrition and WASH Programme works with the Government of China to share international experiences and best practices, and adapt them to a local context to ensure the health and well-being for every woman, newborn, child and adolescent. We aim to ensure that all births are safe; all newborns are healthy; and babies and children are well nourished, free from injury and violence, protected from diseases, grow up in a clean environment and develop to their full potential.

The Nutrition Officer will be accountable for technical and administrative support throughout the programming process. S/he will be responsible for programme focused on infant and young child nutrition, and accountable to leverage the support of both private and public-sector partners.

How can you make a difference?

We are looking for a dynamic professional with a background in public health or nutrition with excellent communication and marketing skills, who can lead UNICEF's engagement on breastfeeding protection and promotion in China.

  • Programme Development & Management - Provide technical support and assistance in research development, pre-testing, data collection, report writing data analysis and policy briefs; support the development of China Code on marketing breastmilk substitutes(CODE) based on The International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes; develop a CODE monitoring framework and protocol and conduct periodic surveys to monitor CODE violations and support the development of annual report with partners; Research and document institutional conflicts of interest in the context of marketing breastmilk substitutes and foods marketed to children under five and assist with capacity development of breastfeeding support groups and advocates.

  • Partnerships - Identify stakeholders, celebrities and other public officials who could serve as advocates for breastfeeding; create stronger links across ministries and public institutions to support breastfeeding as a core component of early childhood development and establish new partnerships to strengthen an international Code movement.
  • Advocacy - Strengthen the enabling environment to protect, promote and sustain breastfeeding; Revitalize UNICEF programmes like "10m2 of love" campaign to promote breast feeding; Develop strategies to strengthen workplace programmes for women; Increase the number of workplaces and public buildings that provide and maintain breastfeeding facilities and support in the development of advocacy messages.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master's or higher) in one of the following fields: public health, marketing/consumer analytics, social sciences or other relevant discipline

  • Five years of relevant professional experience, including in the private sector

  • Strong networking and partnerships building skills

  • Experience with management and coordination of projects

  • Prior experience in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, Brand Marketing is considered an asset

  • Fluency in English and Chinese is required
