OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Arabic Programme, French Translation Unit (AFT) is mainly responsible for translating, revising and editing health-related information and documents from English into Arabic and French. AFT occasionally provides translation from Arabic and French into English under the guidance and general direction of AFT Manager.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the direct supervision of AFT Manager, the incumbent will perform the following duties\:

1) Translate, edit, revise and proofread Arabic and English texts ensuring accuracy, clarity and uniformity of terminology ;

2) Translate, revise, edit, proofread and rewrite documents and publications of the Regional Committee, technical papers and publication materials in the Office;

3) Translate into Arabic, edit, proofread RD's addresses and speeches;

4) Translate into Arabic, edit, proofread abstracts of papers to be published in HQ and EMRO journals;

5) Translate into Arabic, edit, proofread the contents of HQ and EMRO web-sites;

6) Contribute to terminology work as required through collecting new terms and their translations and inserting them in the TermBase; and

7) Perform other related duties as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: University degree in translation studies.
Desirable\:

Experience

Essential\: At least two years of experience in language services (translation/revision/editing).
Desirable\: Working knowledge in UN agencies is an asset.

Skills

- Ability to use standalone/network-based Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) applications/tools;

- Ability to use relevant word processing tools;

- Excellent knowledge and skills in editing and production aspects of technical papers and books;

- Excellent negotiation skills, ability to establish and maintain social working relationship with staff of different cultural backgrounds; and

- Ability to work under pressure.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at EGP 514,134 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
