UNICEF is calling for a consultant to further raise awareness of the Innovation fund locally, strengthen UNICEF’s partnerships with the private sector and the startup ecosystem, raise funds for the regional accelerator and complete support the integration of innovative emerging technology solutions into UNICEF Egypt’s programme.

METHODOLOGY

Networking, field work, liaising with corporate team Egypt, and with VC team, and HQ.

ACTIVITIES, DELIVERABLES AND TIMELINES, PLUS BUDGET PER DELIVERABLE

The consultant is expected to perform the following key tasks:

1.Develop and implement an engagement strategy for UNICEF Egypt with the local start-up ecosystem to encourage innovation for children, based on the learnings of the first phase:

-Updated mapping of stakeholders.

-Coordinate with local stakeholders to ensure representation of issues that affect children in Egypt during relevant events.

-Document the engagement model, including strategies for financial sustainability, for adoption and scaling in other contexts.

2.Identify and support local technology solutions that could address current challenges children are facing in coordination with the different UNICEF CO programs:

-Identify shortlist of companies that fit criteria for Venture Fund and support through application process, with a particular focus on female founded and female led companies.

-Identify companies for direct partnership and engagement with Egypt Country Office sections, as relevant.

-Support any pilot projects and partnerships.

-Coordinate with local startups selected for funding by the UNICEF Innovation Fund, with focus on identifying opportunities for shared value with UNICEF's programmes, for instance through programmatic mentoring, identification of piloting opportunities, etc.

3.Develop 2-3 key partnerships with the private sector to raise resources to support and accelerate innovation within UNICEF Egypt:

-In close collaboration with UNICEF Egypt's partnerships team, identify potential partners that can bring technical and financial resources.

-Secure financial support (500K USD) for the regional accelerator programme to support open source companies that are innovating for children by the end of June 2019.

4.Oversee and provide project management support to regional accelerator programme (currently under development)

-Manage relevant external partners (corporate partners) and vendors (providing services for the acceleration programme).

-Identify relevant start-ups for participation.

-Providing technical inputs into the curriculum and execution of acceleration program.

-Acting as linkage between UNICEF Egypt and UNICEF's Office of Innovation.

QUALIFICATIONS, SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND ADDITIONAL COMPETENCIES

-Arabic and English language skills, reading and writing.

-Knowledge of the Startup Scene in Egypt.

-Network experience within start up business, Venture Capital, integrators.

CONDITIONS OF WORK

This is an office-based consultancy. Consultant will submit monthly reports (describing the tasks accomplished and outputs achieved as per this ToR).
