Your team

Within the Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre,  the ASE team is responsible for documentation and strategic evolution of the overall MADAP system in terms of specifications and architecture, and assurance of application of architectural design principles in day-to-day system maintenance and implementation and integration of project deliverables.

Your role

Your role will be to:



  • contribute to the development of the strategy regarding the short and medium-term evolution of systems and to translate the strategy into concrete business objectives and requirements; to participate to the development of architectural concepts and support the definition of the short and medium term evolution of the MADAP systems in the framework of the architectural concept;

  • improve the quality of the MADAP system and its maintainability, and to develop a SESAR compliant system and/or integrate SESAR compliant sub-systems;

  • define the architecture with stakeholders, develop (or propose alternate solutions, as required) solutions to meet architecture and safety requirements, and design project deliverables in accordance with the MADAP architectural design principles and constraints;

  • negotiate with external suppliers, as required, and to ensure that the system level quality requirements are met;

  • provide reporting and compliance management in line with applicable regulations/standards, draft and maintain relevant system level documentation in line with MADAP baselines and ensure the appropriate system level documentation.

  • analyse change proposals in order to:

    • identify the impact on system and subsystem level requirements,

    • support and ensure a coherent implementation of technical changes, in line with the Architectural Roadmap and the Architectural Design Constraints/Principles



  • lead workshops, share expertise, participate to internal and external working groups and closely coordinate with various subsystem owners;

  • perform any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies


  • Completed university studies of at least four years in a relevant area (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.).

  • In addition to the above, a minimum of 5 years’ relevant professional experience.

  • Internal candidates should check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.

  • Experience in software development including


    • Business Process Modelling and Software Modelling techniques and tools

    • Concepts of big data and artificial intelligence

    • Understanding of DevOps


  • Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), decomposition of software and application of service-oriented design paradigms to software development.

  • Understanding of computer network technologies and communication protocols (TCP/IP, UDP/IP, VPN, routing, firewalls, NAT, etc.).

  • Understanding of distributed systems and popular middleware technologies.

  • Technical drafting skills (English).

  • The following would be an advantage:


    • Understanding or experience with MADAP systems

    • Experience with reliability engineering

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only. At the closing date of the notice of competition, internal candidates must have completed their probationary period.

  • This is an appointment for a determined period of 5 Year(s). It could be extended up to a maximum of 7 years or converted into an undetermined contract. Before being established in the post, the external candidate will be required to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.

  • Internal candidates appointed to an established post or for an undetermined period: If successful, the person will maintain his/her current type of appointment yet be selected to fill this position under the conditions set above (determined period). At the end of this limited-term appointment, he/she will be transferred to the type of post and grade corresponding to the one he/she held before the determined appointment.

  • Internal candidates appointed for determined period: If successful, the person will continue his/her current type of appointment if compliant with duration limits laid down in Annex X of the Staff Regulations/General Conditions of Employment.

  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade in the function group and to the type of post indicated in the vacancy notice, or, if a group of grades has been published, in principle at the basic grade.
