Organizational Setting
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy and Economics Division (FIA) is responsible for the economic, social, institutional, governance and policy aspects of all programmes and activities related to fisheries and aquaculture and their development, with particular emphasis on human well-being, food security, nutrition and poverty reduction; post-harvest utilization, marketing and trade with due regard to the protection of the environment, food security and the well-being of fishing communities; collection, compilation, validation, trend analysis and dissemination of the best available and up-to-date fishery statistics and for the syndication of FAO information on all aspects of world fisheries and aquaculture.
The Consultant/PSA will work under the overall supervision of the Branch Head of FIAM and the direct supervision of a relevant FIAM Officer.
Support in the planning and implementing of nutrition-specific and sensitive fisheries and aquaculture activities, including measurement of food security and nutrition impacts, and development of awareness raising and materials for policy makers addressing nutrition and food systems programming in fisheries and aquaculture.
• Participation and support to activities relating to UN Decade of Action on Nutrition and its relation to fisheries and aquaculture;
• Participate on multi-disciplinary project/work teams throughout the FI Department and across FAO headquarters on matters of fish in food systems;
• Provide technical leadership of the FIA’s Food Security and Nutrition Working Group;
• Lead authorship and provide support in the development of technical guidelines, policy briefs, methodologies, and FAO’s State of the World Fisheries and Aquaculture, as required;
• Collaborate in the development of training tools, databases and materials and assist in the support of policies on integration of food and nutrition security in fisheries and aquaculture programmes and projects;
• Raising awareness of/visibility to fish in nutrition platforms such as the Global Nutrition Report, Committee on Food Security (side events and main sessions pertaining to fisheries), EAT Stockholm Food Forum and others, as required;
• Support the Committee on Fisheries, side events and main events pertaining to food security and nutrition;
• Participate in FAO’s Urban Food Systems working group and Food Systems task force on behalf of the FI Department;
• Contribute to the planning and follow up of the FAO Symposium on Fisheries Sustainability (Nov 2019) session 3\: fish and nutrition.
Minimum Requirements
• For Consultants – Advanced university degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Dietetics, or a related field with a background in nutrition. For PSAs – University degree in above areas.
• Five years of relevant experience in developing and implementing food and nutrition policies, programmes, tools and training/education materials, ideally related to the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
• For Consultants – Working knowledge of English and basic knowledge of one of the other languages of the Organization (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian). For PSAs - Working knowledge of English.

• Extent and relevance of experience in collecting and analysing technical information and data related to nutrition;

• Extent and relevance of experience in the preparation, reviewing and revision of technical and scientific documents and in organizing meetings and workshops related to nutrition.
