Head of Global Branding (f/m)

Location: International Office, Vienna/Austria

SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organisation for the global federation of SOS Children’s Villages. As a non-governmental social development organisation we help children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for children’s rights. We work in 136 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year.

Mission

The mission of the Communications and Brand (C&B) team is to build a strong global brand and to position SOS Children’s Villages as the champion for children without parental care or those at risk of losing it.

Therefore, we provide a clear, overarching C&B strategy, which allows for local adaptation, core brand assets and guidelines as well as a platform for collaboration and sharing.

We leverage international media relations and the SOS Children’s Villages International media channels to build our brand and to position SOS on a global scale.

Tasks and responsibilities

Brand strategy

  • Drives development and implementation of a concept/strategy for Global Branding
  • Identifies global target audiences and integrates in the brand and communications strategy
  • Leads key global brand development projects
  • Leads the development of the brand book and brand guidelines
  • Advises the International Director of Communications and Brand on the role of the brand in larger cross-federation projects

Brand management

  • Manages and coaches the brand team
  • Leads and inspires the global brand network
  • Assists management and leaders on all levels of the organisation to promote and protect the one global brand positioning and reputation, ensuring brand values and identity are consistently communicated and carefully embedded in management decisions
  • Monitors the development of the global brand. Sets standards for brand monitoring across the regions
  • Manages and controls the brand budget
  • Supports the International Director of Communications and Brand in overall budget planning
  • Leads the development of brand capacity across the organisation
  • Initiates and guides global brand monitoring and research and guides Member Associations (MAs) on local brand research. Provides KPI reports for the International Director of Communications and Brand
  • Steers the global brand ambassador programme
  • Internal branding: supports Federation Communications team in engaging employees and in living the brand

Visual identity and brand assets

  • Manages graphic design, delivers support for core projects and guidance for executional graphic design
  • Guides (and works closely with) the Newsroom team for the development of brand assets
  • Identifies and monitors core target audiences across the globe
  • Develops, protects and leverages the SOS Children’s Villages visual brand identity

Key messages and positioning

  • Develops key messages and positioning statements and monitors use
  • Works with peers (Communications & Brand team leaders, General Secretariat and MAs) to develop the annual communications strategy, including the development of a global campaign
Requirements
  • University degree in Brand Management or Marketing; or other relevant degree combined with substantive relevant experience in brand management in an international organisation
  • 10 years of progressive local and global experience in the area of strategic brand management including at the senior level driving implementation, management and strategic initiatives
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing teams as well as leading international networks
  • Extensive experience in leading global projects and budget management
  • Profound experience in strategic branding. Ability and experience in providing structured and strategic brand guidance in a dynamic environment. This includes superior proficiency in working with brand models, brand research, brand analysis, target audience definition, and brand positioning
  • Proven track record in developing and executing communications strategies
  • Superior communication skills
  • Strong customer focus and understanding of customer needs and translating these to relevant brand and communication concepts and strategies
  • Excellent command of English
  • Applicants must hold a valid Austrian working permit or be eligible to work within the EU
