ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Department of Strategic Communications plans, develops and implements strategies and activities to position IDLO as a key player on rule of law and access to justice, build partnerships and promote, protect and enhance IDLO’s ‘brand’.

It ensures best practices in designing and producing high quality communications and multimedia tools to increase awareness about IDLO’s work and raise the profile of the Organization. It collaborates closely with teams responsible for Government Relations and Strategic Partnerships to ensure IDLO’s achievements are properly communicated, using and creative and cutting-edge tools and approaches. It collaborates with other entities in IDLO, including the UN Liaison Offices, the Department of Research and Learning, Government Relations Unit and the Office of the Director-General, to promote IDLO’s policy advocacy priorities with the UN, governments and other stakeholders. It supports IDLO’s program and program development teams and field offices to ensure that communications and outreach activities are integrated in IDLO’s activities around the world.

Under the supervision of, and working in close collaboration with, the Director of Strategic Communications, on strategy, messaging and content, the Digital Content Lead will play an important and significant role in the Communications team, responsible for the following duties:

 Key results expected results:

 1.      Website Development and Maintenance

  • Function as the webmaster of IDLO’s website www.idlo.int and maintain its Drupal content management system (CMS), ensuring its functionality and speed;.
  • Develop, lead and manage the content strategy of the website, which includes utilization of storytelling techniques and capturing IDLO’s impact, and thereby ensuring quality control of content and consistency of voice;
  • Write, curate, edit and post web content such as statements, blog posts, op-eds, speeches and press releases;
  • Work closely with other team members and IDLO departments, as well as coordinate with other Communications professionals in line with IDLO’s content strategy;
  • Sustain and increase traffic to IDLO’s website through Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and promotion;
  • Maintain standards and integration of IDLO’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, Civi CRM, within the website CMS;
  • Undertake, provide support and backup as needed on email coding, reporting, and segmentation as needed;
  • Oversee website development and manage external providers contracted to undertake work on website upgrades, development, maintenance, Search Engine Optimization, content strategy and implementation of new environments.

  2.    Social Media

  • Develop, lead and support the implementation of IDLO’s communications and digital / social media strategy across traditional and online media platforms;
  • Draft, and edit written materials, communications plans, and content as needed for program, partner and communications team;
  • Undertake, provide support and backup as needed on social media posting and scheduling;
  • Oversee IDLO’s social media presence and consistently review and maintain IDLO’s social media channels, which are currently Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, ensuring alignment with IDLO’s priorities and voice/tone;
  • Grow IDLO’s social media presence through dynamic engagement strategies and promotion, including monitoring all online activity/comments/mentions and responding in a timely manner;
  • Lead strategy and implementation of communications for key IDLO partnerships;
  • Liaise with IDLO partners and peers for social media campaigns and oversee the development of social media kits for social media campaigns;
  • Expand IDLO’s relationship with the media and influencers based on agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs);
  • Provide strategic and professional development support on social media engagement across the organization, including on integrating online communication components into their programs of work and other activities;
  • Develop relevant policies and tools and create messaging for social media and press kits, to implement organization standards. 

 3.     Branding, Design and Multimedia Content

  • Support the organization’s brand strategy through developing, advocating and sustaining global standards and practices;
  • Develop and publish innovative and brand-consistent digital and multimedia content (e.g. photos, infographics, audio and video), as well as keep up to date on communications and digital industry standards and trends with new, useful media and tools to better engage IDLO audiences;
  • Attend and cover live events, as needed;
  • Oversee external creative resources, such as graphic designers, videographers, photographers and other creative services, and assist with publishing and visual tasks: including photo sourcing, multimedia editing and development of infographics;
  • Manage vendor relationships, as needed for communications team;
  • Oversee third-party service providers contracted to manage creative content (e.g. photo databases).

4.      Strategy and Analytics

  • Oversee and analyze the performance of IDLO’s online presence and leverage insights and analytics to drive decisions about IDLO’s strategic communications;
  • Provide support on reporting communications metrics and KPIs;
  • Based on analytics, contribute to the development of approaches to continually improve engagement with stakeholders inside and outside of the organization;
  • Oversee external service providers contracted to track analytics and other online services for stakeholder engagement (e.g. online surveys).

 5.       Other responsibilities

  • Act as a deputy to the Director, Strategic Communications;
  • Liaise with communications teams of partners and peers; attend meetings and events representing the IDLO communications team, as needed;
  • Manage communications staff and interns, as needed.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Education and Professional Experience

  • An advanced university degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, International Relations or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in communications and digital media, in publishing or media outlet, at an international public service organization and /or international non-governmental organization;

 Languages

  • Outstanding written and verbal skills in English. Fluency in French and/or Spanish would be highly desirable.

 Skills, Knowledge and Technical Competencies

  • Experience writing and editing materials, content, communications plans;
  • Proficiency and experience in website maintenance and development, particularly Drupal CMS, web-standard HTML, JavaScript, CSS;
  • Experience in email marketing platforms, including coding, testing and debugging HTML emails;
  • Experience maintaining and managing organizational social media / networking accounts, e.g. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn;
  • Experience with Google analytics and other custom metrics;
  • Experience in graphic design, desktop publishing and typesetting, and in producing and editing film / video content.
  • Excellent writing skills – experience writing and editing op-eds, blogs, press releases, and editorial content for a brand, organization, or thought leader;
  • Experience driving impactful storytelling strategy;
  • Sound media relations background and experience working with the press;
  • Experience working as part of a partner or client-facing communications team;

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

For this internationally recruited position, IDLO shall offer the selected candidate a fixed term contract of 36 months with possibility of extension subject to performance and availability of funding.

In addition, IDLO shall offer the candidate an annual basic salary in the range of EUR 64,000, a leave and benefit package, including medical, mission insurance and provident fund in accordance with IDLO Employee Regulations and Rules. Relocation and installation support are also available for internationally recruited employees.

The remuneration is net of income tax for those without Italian nationality or permanent residence.
