The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.  We are currently seeking to fill an Innovation Services Lead intern position in our Innovation Accelerator (INCA), Innovation and Change Management Division, based in Munich, Germany.

    Duties and responsibilities
  • Support Innovation Accelerator managerial and operative tasks, oversight of service delivery across a key client account/s and related service lines, including taking lead roles in running bootcamps, workshops, advisory “sprint” support to innovation teams and other emerging offerings suited to client needs;
  • Management of a 10+ person innovation services team (internal and external) responsible for delivering to each client, including consultants delivering to bootcamps, sprints and workshops, and relevant business support staff such as communications, administration and partnerships.
  • Input into strategy and operations for Innovation Services as a whole, including regular review of strategy and ensuring compliance with WFP policies in operations including facets such as the use of vendors and sub-contractors, partnerships, contracts and reporting.
  • Input into the impact assessment, developing and monitoring the theory of change of why/how innovation services are helping with client objectives.
  • Working with other innovation service leads to provide oversight for the development and growth of a support community and alumni from which we can engage experts, mentors and partners for all clients.
  • Working closely with other members of the Innovation Accelerator team to maintain a strong single team as we collectively undergo considerable growth.
  • Support the Head of Innovation Services and the Head of the Accelerator with any other activities and tasks as required

The Innovation Services lead will be managing client relationships in multi-year agreements and managing a team to deliver design sprint “bootcamps”, venture advisory support and consulting on teams transitioning to scale. Over time, the Innovation Services leads will work with WFP leadership to refine strategy and operationally deliver innovation services and consolidate WFP’s leadership position in innovation.

Required qualifications and experience

Education:

Must have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in design, business, technology and/or international development. Master’s degree is a plus.

Experience:

  • 8 years or more of progressively responsible experience in an innovation function or accelerator, product management in a technology company, as startup founder or in a similar role;
  • Experience running innovation and accelerator processes, such as design-led, human-centered design, lean-startup or agile workshops and managed them throughout the development journey of a startup/innovation
  • At least 4 years’ leadership and management experience, managing other experienced staff
  • Experience in interaction with senior client and stakeholder relationships
  • Experience with, and knowledge of, international development, emerging technologies, human-centered design, lean start up methodology 
  • Experience in innovation in developing countries or social impact and/or living or working in developing countries is a plus.

  3. Strong people management skills, experience managing high performers and passionate team members with an entrepreneurial drive; comfortable in creating and adapting to new processes;
  4. Collaborative spirit, able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility, diplomacy and tact; excellent communication/presentation skills with strong empathy for other team members, clients and stakeholders;
  5. Strong time management skills: ability to plan ahead, work to tight deadlines, anticipate requirements, problems, obstacles and to juggle competing priorities successfully;
  6. Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy while being a strong team player;
  7. Willing to work in and travel to different field locations and challenging operating environments.

Language requirements

  • Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese) is a plus.
