Head of Project*

in Sinuni

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until March 31, 2020. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Sinuni, Iraq.

This position is for an Early Recovery Project in Sinuni, Ninewa Governate, Iraq. The project's focus is on livelihoods and includes components such as Cash for Work, vocational training, provision of local business grants, micro finance, establishment of small scale enterprises in rural settings and social cohesion. The objectives are to manage and implement programmes and projects on the basis of specified directives in terms of content, schedule and budget. The project is carried out in accordance with Welthungerhilfe (WHH) standards and the directives/provisions of the co-financer.

Your responsibilities

  • Carry out the project according to the rules and standards of the co-financing donors and Welthungerhilfe standards for the implementation of projects.
  • Ensure that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring, logistics, finance administration, etc.)
  • Modify and continue project planning and the project budget.
  • Develop needs based & impact oriented project planning in the context of the ongoing project (in line WHH and country strategy)
  • Support the identification of co-financing opportunities to be pursued and ensures the timely development of successful project proposals in line with the relevant donor regulations and strategies
  • Establish good working relationships with donors and other stakeholders in-country for emergency, rehabilitation and development programmes in coordination with the Country Office
  • Report to the Country Director on the progress of the project and all risks associated with the project work
  • Prepare and implement a preparedness plan for disasters and potential crises on the basis of country specific situation

Your profile

  • A university degree (Masters) or equivalent in Humanitarian Aid, Development Studies or other relevant field of study
  • A minimum five years of experience in working in similar position for international organisation/INGO
  • Experience with local business grants, vocational training and the establishment of small scale enterprises in rural settings along with the management/administration of grants are essential for this position
  • Experience in management and the respective skill set
  • High stress tolerance, especially under sometimes heavy workload
  • Excellent team building skills and communication skills
  • Previous experience of working in Iraq is considered as an important asset
  • Fluency in English
