ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:

This post is placed in the Information Technology Unit in the relevant UNHCR office. The incumbent will act as supervisor and administrator of the LAN system and as such will ensure that data and data bases are secure and confidential.
Regular technical discussions with the supervisor and other staff in the immediate functional unit.  Contact with management to receive instructions and to provide required information.  Training and guidance to staff members in other sections in the use of the information system.
Technical support and extension of IT systems to implementing partners
Technical recommendations and suggestions may impact on the up keep/improvement of UNHCR's IT standards.  Failure to regularly maintain and improve the information systems could result in a breakdown of communications, loss of data, unnecessary extra costs, equipment damages, delay in office/field work delivery, and inadequate communication

FUNCTIONAL STATEMENT:

The main objectives are:

1. Monitor and maintain the LAN, Network Servers, Printers, LAN points, Hubs, Patch pane, etc. to prevent faults occurring
2. Provide technical user-support services and training in UNHCR applications, including e-mail., upgrade the Software when instructed.
3. Ensure that information problem recovery is done as quickly as possible by making  regular system back-ups
4. Add or remove users from the Network.
5. Assist in the maintenance of accurate records of users and usage of the Network.
6. Provide technical support to UNHCR's implementing partners
7. Carry out minor hardware maintenance.
8. Perform any other duty, as requested If required the incumbent will also
9. Ensure that the clients' databases are up-to-date by identifying and keeping what is relevant and accurate in an accessible manner. 
10. Generate statistical reports as required by the Management for improved decision making.
11. Undertake basic analysis/interpretation of data and draw conclusion or identify patterns/trends, which can assist the work of the Office.
12. Develop forms and tools for data collection and analysis..

QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES:

Completion of Secondary education. Certificate/training in Information Technology. Ability to support network (LAN) and computer equipment. Knowledge of computer application packages
Minimum 6 years relevant professional working experiences;
English is essential;

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

Knowledge of French is desirable.
