Within the delegated authority and under the full direct supervision of the Regional Portfolio/Programme Manager of the Regional Office for Europe and CIS (RO ECIS) or his/her designated mandated representative(s) and with the matrix/secondary reporting to the Communications Specialist (P4) in the UNV Headquarters, the UN Volunteer, Regional Communications Officer for Europe and CIS, will:
Public Relations (PR) support (20%):
- Develop and implement communications annual workplan with the main focus on communication support to volunteer mobilization under the UNV modality in the region and promotion of volunteerism;
- Guide relevant staff and support the Regional Office on new feasible solutions for increasing overall visibility and positioning of the UNV programmes in the region;
- Build a network and maintain close contact with representatives from broadcast mass media at international and regional levels to ensure wide coverage and visibility of the UNV programmes in the region;
- Exchange and coordinate public relations and outreach strategies and tools with relevant stakeholders;
- Create and maintain e-repository of relevant knowledge products, contacts and information materials;
- Build strong relations with media (international, regional, national), including corporate contacts of partners, organizations and media outlets;
- Represent UNV and share relevant information with the UN Communication Groups in the countries with no UNV field presence;
- Respond timely and clearly to media inquiries and to a variety of inquiries and information requests.
Content research and production (20%):
- Research volunteer initiatives and experiences in the region for all communications purposes, in coordination with the Field Units;
- Coordinate content production and development of communications tools with the Communications team at UNV headquarters;
- Prepare up-to-date information, articles, and publishing content, other visibility and marketing products based on corporate, regional and field unit’s priorities;
- Maintain style and brand editorial standards in online and print materials, multimedia, social platforms and other communications tools;
- Manage content for social media platforms in the region, monitor conversations and comments, and keep track of social media analytics;
- Edit and publish online content and covey key messages to target audiences on the web.
Support content quality and coordination for all communication tool (30%):
- Ensure correct use of brand for online and print materials and tools produced by the Field Units in the region;
- Implement tools and processes for Field Units to submit content for corporate communications purposes;
- Work with partner UN agencies and other partners at the regional level for the publishing of information on UNV to ensure consistency of content and editorial products;
- Arrange translation of materials, ensuring brand and quality of such materials;
- Guide personnel in the Regional Office and Field Units on communications formats, design, photography, video and promotional items;
- Prepare communications inputs and review briefing notes, speeches and presentations;
- Support development of presentations and infographics about the UNV programmes and modalities;
- Review RO promotional communication on the UNV modality to the UN partners and ensure its visibility and quality content.
Support in online and print marketing, outreach and campaigns (30%):
- Support Field Units in the region in the preparation of media tools and messaging for the International Volunteers Day (IVD) and other relevant communication events;
- Liaise with Field Units and external partners to ensure continued support during the International Volunteers Day (IVD) and other corporate events;
- Manages IVD event for the Regional Office;
- Collect and analyze data and feedback for final reporting on events;
- Support Field Units in the development of online and print materials for the promotion of outreach events and campaigns;
- Promote field level UNV activities and volunteer success stories through mass media, social media networks and printed editions in cooperation with the RO, UNDP and UNV presence in the fields;
- Support UNV outreach in the fields in cooperation with UNDP, RO and UNV field presence;
- Ensure regular communication flows on promotion and advocacy for the UNV modality and volunteerism the focus on SDGs, in cooperation with UNDP, RO and UNV presence in the fields;
- Reply to public inquiries and refer queries, comments and contributions for appropriate action; channel queries/comments/contributions to relevant staff members for processing;
- Support outreach initiatives to raise visibility and media interest in the work of UNV and the contributions made by UN Volunteers;
- Contribute to positioning and marketing of the UNV modality in the region.
Perform any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:- Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Philology or any other related field;
- A first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant communication training and 3 years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree;
- At least, 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in communications, journalism, marketing;
- Good knowledge of internet communications, marketing and outreach activities;
- Proficiency in the use of web content management systems, publishing, photo editing tools and other web publishing tools is an asset;
- Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
- Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
- Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.), photo editing/design tools and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
- Previous experience in volunteerism is an asset;
- Sound security awareness;
- Have affinity with or interest in sustainable development, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
