Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Field Office or its designate, the Snr. Durable Solutions Assistant-National United Nations Volunteer- NUNV will undertake the following tasks:

  • Support to design a tool which captures the profiles of refugees to build on their capacities.
  • Engage on a one on one basis with Persons of Concern to the UNHCR to identify the most appropriate durable solution and to enable them to make a well-informed decision.
  • Interview candidates for voluntary repatriation and prepare documentation for their return, in line with Voluntary repatriation SOPs.
  • Support in the designing, delivery and monitoring of Programme on an AGD basis to address identified durable solution needs
  • Ensure that the durable solution strategy is fully integrated into the Country Operations Plan,
  • Provide support for the elaboration of local integration strategy for Ivoirian refugees and protracted cases
  • Share relevant information with partners, local authorities and refugees on durable solutions offered to refugees. - Build the capacity of national and local government, partners and civil society to assume their responsibilities vis-à-vis all persons of concern through durable solution training, mainstreaming and related activities
  • Intervene with authorities on durable solution issues.
  • Implement and oversee Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all durable solution activities. - Assist in updating the electronic databases for, voluntary repatriation and local integration, in line with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Process documentation to ensure that persons of concern receive the documents required for their durable solutions in a timely manner.
  • Profiling refugees and conduct a livelihood needs assessment for refugees who have chosen to be locally integrated in Liberia.

  • Prepare statistical and ad-hoc reports to ensure accurate information is available and shared with relevant offices and partners.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to:
  • Strengthen their knowledge in refugee protection and UNHCR activities throughout the world.
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in Liberia;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible;
  • Decide on the contect of information and reports submitted to the Supervisor.

Promotion of the UN Volunteer Programme mandate:

  • UN Volunteers are expected to integrate the UN Volunteers Programme mandate within their assignment as well as promote voluntary action through engagement with communities (urban and rural) in the course of their work. As such, UN volunteers should dedicate a proportion of their working week to the following in support of and in synergy with their primary functional role:
  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Secondary education Education - Additional Comments:

Medical doctor (MD) or para-medical (nurse, midwife) and post graduate degree in Public Health or Epidemiology required.

Required experience: 48 Months Experience remark:
  • Previous working experience, preferably in refugee settings and/or international experience is an asset;
  • Experience working with multi-sectorial teams especially UN agencies and Ministry of Health is an advantage
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
