Job Description

The IRC has long-term programs supporting conflict-affected persons in Iraq.

 

SCOPE OF WORK: Under the supervision of the Education Manager, the Sr. Officer will manage education activities in formal schools and a Safe Healing Learning Space. The Senior Officer will play a key role in planning programs and managing implementation, and monitoring of all education activities in Sinjar.

 

The location of the Senior Education Officer position is Sinjar City.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly manage and support two to three education officers based in Sinjar.
  • Ensure timely completion staff timesheets, probation reviews and annual performance reviews.
  • Set expectations and objectives for staff and provide appropriate and timely feedback on performance.
  • Work with the Education Manager to develop work plans and oversee implementation of all education activities in Sinjar.
  • Ensure that targets are met, and recommend adjustments to programming as necessary.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits to assess progress, address challenges, and provide support to officers and other staff.
  • Work with the Education Manager to ensure that spending is in line with budget.
  • Ensure all monitoring data is properly collected and delivered to the M&E team.
  • Oversee purchase requests.
  • Support recruitment of education officers, community mobilizers, and facilitators.
  • Support the Administrative Assistant in processing of purchase requests, as well as HR, finance and recruiting documentation.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with support teams including Supply Chain, Finance, and Human Resources departments and coordinate with them on program delivery.
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Education and the Directorate of Education offices when directed by the Education Manager.
  • Support professional development of Education Officers and other.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Education Manager.

Key Working Relationships:Education Manager, M&E officer, Supply Chain, Finance,HR.

Position Reports to:  Education Manager

Position directly supervises: two\three Education Officers, Administrative Assistant


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor Degree in education, social science, or related field
  • 2 years’ experience implementing education, child protection or similar activities.
  • Previous experience working with NGOs strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience project management is required.
  • Previous experience supervising a team with diverse backgrounds.
  • Previous experience in staff capacity building desirable.
  • Knowledge of Sinjar and the formal education system in Ninewa is required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience working with vulnerable communities.
  • Fluency in Arabic and either Kurmanji or Badini is required. English language skills strongly preferred.
  • Personal qualities: Team player, flexible, comfortable working on a diverse team, able to handle pressure well.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel
