The Syria crisis is often described as the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the end of the Cold War. Inside Syria, 6.1 million people are internally displaced and 13.1 million are in need of humanitarian assistance, with three million in hard-to-reach areas. There are 5.4 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. This is no short-term humanitarian episode. The devastating human consequences to huge numbers of people will endure for decades. The destruction of relationships, communities, livelihoods, homes and infrastructure will take years to repair. Job Overview/Summary: IRC’s Senior Child Protection Officer will be based in Amman. Under the direct supervision of the Senior Child Protection Manager and close working relationship with Senior Program Managers for CP, PRoL, and WPE, he/she will be responsible for operational and administrative support to IRC’s direct child protection services and lead child protection sub-awards in Northwest Syria. The Senior Child Protection Officer will ensure timely, effective and high quality support on a range of direct and partnership program activities adhering to PEERS Partnership Excellence for Equality and Results Systems (PEERS) requirements. IRC’s child protection services in NWS include case management; Safe Healing and Learning Spaces; structured PSS; capacity building of service providers and community leaders; establishment of community child protection structures; raising awareness on child protection risks; and parenting education delivered directly by IRC teams and local partners. The Senior Child Protection Officer will support the establishment and management new direct child protection programs and sub-awards, organizing and trainings and workshop for IRC staff and partners, follow-up on procurement and payments related to program activities, review budget variance against projection, follow-up on staff movement inside Syria, and support the recruitment of new staff. The Senior Child Protection Officer will coordinate monitoring and evaluation activities with partners, verification of reports received from partners and compilation of qualitative and quantitative reports.
