Job Description
Retention Tutor will be working in the provision of education to Syrian refugees children within or in close proximity to ITS (Informal Tented Settlement) locations in Northern Lebanon and Bekaa as part of the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC’s) Education response in Lebanon. Retention Tutors will be taking part in a new IRC pilot program to support Syrian children enrolled in formal school with extra, competency based support in Arabic, Math and Second Language (English or French) for a total of 8 hours per week. Tutors will be working under the guidance of IRC’s Retention Officers, as well as the IRC Technical Manager and IRC Field Managers in Akkar and Bekaa, and will report directly to the IRC Field Managers (Akkar and Bekaa). Tutors are expected to deliver instruction in a community-based structure, in or close to refugee communities, with the goal of Syrian students being provided additional support for formal school classes. Assessments will be done at the beginning end of the program and will determine the learning level and learning materials needed for each student. Tutors should have a full understanding of the refugee crisis, and be prepared to support and/or refer children with learning needs. Tutors will be teaching IRC developed teacher packages and should be comfortable in second language delivery (either French or English based on area and language in formal school. Qualifications
Language Skills: Arabic; either English or French fluency based on region of work Certificates or Licenses: Teacher Certificate/Teaching Certification Working Environment:classes will be held in or near ITS camps, either in Education tents or in refurbished buildings easily accessible to the communities. Classes will have a maximum of 12 students per facilitator, broken into two levels (Emerging, or beginner and Developing, or intermediate).
