The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with National Committees and UNICEF Country Offices to maximize income and drive income growth to support UNICEF’s mission.

These 2 Fixed-Term (FT) positions of Fundraising Specialist (Legacies) will work as part of the legacy team within the wider Individual Giving team, who work with markets to directly influence private sector income. Legacies contribute towards the strategic plan 2018-21 goals for Individual supporters, through both revenues raised and the number of supporters interested in leaving a legacy gift to UNICEF, and the legacy team support on achieving the KPIs through their work with markets.

Purpose of the Position

These 2 Fixed-Term (FT) Fundraising Specialist (Legacies) will primarily focus on supporting and enabling a portfolio of markets to grow their legacy activities to achieve higher levels of income from this source.

The incumbents of each position will also support on the implementation and further development of UNICEF’s global legacy fundraising strategy and both manage and contribute to a range of key projects and initiatives that relate to driving the ambitious growth of this income channel for the organization.

Key Accountabilities and Duties & Tasks

The incumbents will provide strategic advice, technical fundraising expertise and support and guidance to a portfolio of UNICEF fundraising markets to help them grow and develop their legacy programs, in alignment with the UNICEF global legacy strategy. The incumbents will also lead or support on a range of key initiatives and projects driven by the central legacy team.

These are a cross-functionals role that will work together with other members of the Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships team and be a part of the central legacy team in Geneva.

Support a portfolio of UNICEF markets to deliver increased performance in income and marketing results

  • Work with frontline fundraisers and their managers and teams to develop strategies and plans to grow their legacy activities and income
  • Provide regular support to markets on the monitoring of their performance, evaluating progress and implementation of their legacy activities and plans
  • Work with teams across fundraising to support the integration of legacies into supporter journeys and ensure all the target audiences are being reached with legacy messaging
  • Support markets to develop more advanced skills, knowledge, systems and assets to enhance their legacy programs
  • Support markets on meeting their research needs and help them to find actionable insight to develop their legacy programs further
  • Support markets on how to align with UNICEF legacy positioning and messaging, whilst adapting for the local context
  • Support markets on their approach to building supporter centric relationships and developing products and services that meet their supporter’s needs  
  • Support markets on building their business cases for their legacy program and securing resources for their activities
  • Support markets on developing relationships with key legacy partners

Support markets in portfolio and at a global level on a range of key initiatives and projects that are related to

  • Overall monitoring and evaluation of the global UNICEF legacy performance
  • Providing UNICEF legacy fundraising markets with data and insight to support their programs
  • Facilitating knowledge transfer and sharing and support the flow of ideas and innovation across the UNICEF markets
  • Driving business development and partnership opportunities for legacy giving for UNICEF
  • Developing content and creative assets that can be shared as a global resource, via the creation of manuals, toolkits, presentations and cultivation of a central online resource for the UNICEF legacy community
  • Enhancing the legacy supporter experience and promote activities that inspire, engage and nurture people towards legacy giving to UNICEF
  • Coordination, planning and delivery of fruitful learning experiences and events that seek to build the capabilities of legacy frontline fundraisers and the wider UNICEF fundraising community
  • Developing and delivery of an internal communications plan and induction and training program for legacy fundraisers at UNICEF
  • Tracking global developments in legacy fundraising across the sector and sharing fundraising trends and latest techniques with the UNICEF legacy community

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced University degree in Marketing, Social Science, Communication, Fundraising, Business Administration or another relevant field is required.
  • A first level university degree in a relevant field combined with 7 years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience is required, preferably in legacy fundraising in a charity environment.
  • Hands-on technical expertise in a multi-channel campaign environment is highly desirable
  • Experience in other areas of fundraising an advantage.
  • Previous experience of working in a fast-paced, results-driven organization is essential.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English required.  Working knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.
