The External Relations (ER) department has been created in February 2020 and is comprised of 3 main but complementary functional areas: Private fundraising, Communications and Advocacy. The ER department is at the beginning stages of creating a new radical and ambitious strategy that will enhance IRC’s ability to ‘punch above its weight’ in private income, advocacy and brand awareness. The main objective of the department is to enable this organization of more than 12,000 staff to have the resources needed to continue serving 18 million people worldwide in places affected by war and disaster, shape the humanitarian sector by influencing key policies and reforms and build and grow IRC’s reputation.

The Business Analyst will support the Associate Director of Strategy & Planning in developing and supporting the implementation of the External Relations strategy across all ER functional areas and driving strategic projects considered high priority by ER leadership. She/he will be expected to find solutions, persuade and influence, build and innovate, and use structured thinking and evidence to solve problems where there is no pre-defined methodology.

This is a demanding role – you will work hard, learn and grow quickly.

Major Responsibilities:

The Business Analyst will provide strategic planning and problem-solving support to the External Relations organization. He or she will be supporting the Associate Director of Strategy & Planning on high priority projects where she/he will be expected to quickly break down problems and iterate rapidly towards evidence-based solutions, creating consensus and building partnerships along the way. Given the small size of the team, the Business Analyst will have to be flexible and adaptable to different type of projects (e.g., analytical, strategic, tactical), stakeholders (junior to senior-level) and level of autonomy/responsibility. This is a challenging position which requires strong strategic problem-solving and interpersonal skills, excellent analytical skills, a high level of personal initiative and the ability to work well in a distributed, multicultural, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities include:

•Engage closely with junior to senior-level staff across the ER department and IRC more broadly who are responsible for planning and implementing change, provide problem-solving support, and facilitate decision-making and consensus-building as part of a team

•Personally drive small and well defined projects, generating critical insights and tailoring and delivering effective communications to drive change, through the proactive solicitation and use of information, judgment, problem-solving and analytical methodologies and sector knowledge

•Proactively pursue sources of data and insight needed to complete analysis and ensure pace of progress and quality of analysis are maintained in line with the expectations of the supervisor

•Collaborate closely and regularly with the supervisor to align on work planning, iterate on solutions and find workarounds as needed

•Give and receive regular developmental feedback and contribute actively to creating a positive, focused and effective team environment

•Adopt a learning mindset and take personal responsibility for continuous performance improvement, and for supporting the ongoing growth and success of the External Relations department against its broader objectives
