The Evaluation Office (EO) is looking for a Data Analyst for an Internship that will help work with multiple divisions within UNICEF on the Community Rapid Assessment: Time Series Data for Rapid Assessment of Behavioral Changes, Coping Strategies and Evolving Needs during COVID-19. Beyond this study, however, there is also a need to produce ongoing and close to real time evidence using mixed methods from UNICEFs databases, data warehouses and online reporting platforms. The primary purpose is to use this evidence towards improving program strategies in UNICEF’s core mandates.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, evaluate

Data science will continue to play an increasingly important role in supporting decision making on children, including to inform UNICEF’s internal planning of its COVID-19 response and government’s planning at the national and sub-national level.  The Intern will work closely with the academic partners and the Evaluation Office and Community for Development Divisions within UNICEF to conceptualize analytic products, develop frameworks to conduct statistical testing for research questions related to various COVID-19 data collection efforts, and produce analyses for evidence generation and publications.

How can you make a difference?

The primary purpose is to use this evidence towards improving program strategies in UNICEF’s core mandates. As part of the portfolio, the Data Analyst will be engaged in the areas of work including data mining, data processing and data analyses related to COVID-19 research, monitoring and evaluation work.  In addition, the analytic work from the CRA is intended to serve as a data source for evaluative work – reviews, meta analyses, and evaluation reports as will be conceptualized by the evaluation office, using community-sourced data where possible.   In short, the overarching focus of the Data Analyst will be conducting ongoing mixed methods analyses using multiple data sources to build high quality data systems that will serve the purpose of addressing not only COVID-19 --- but for future thematic areas aimed at improving the lives of children and young people globally.
