UNICEF Pakistan’s Communication and Advocacy section would like to engage, through an LTA, the services of a number of high- level photographers who will be available at short notice to undertake field visits to produce photos in support of advocacy for child rights, and/or to document UNICEF activities and programmes.

How can you make a difference?

Pakistan was the sixth country in the world to sign and ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child, less than one year after it was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989. However, children and adolescents living in Pakistan still face acute challenges. UNICEF supports the Government to accelerate progress for children.

There is a need to support advocacy for child rights and programme / donor visibility by taking relevant photos across Pakistan, in line with UNICEF standards and rules on ethical reporting for children.

There is an ongoing requirement for the production of evidence-based content, including compelling photos for use in media, social media and publications, that documents key children’s issues and ongoing responses in the field, to support UNICEF’s advocacy efforts. UNICEF Pk is therefore looking at having high-quality photography service providers on contract who are located in various parts of the country and can fill assignments.

UNICEF Pakistan’s Communication and Advocacy section would like to engage, through an LTA,  the services of a number of high- level photographers who will be available at short notice to undertake field visits to produce photos in support of advocacy for child rights, and/or to document UNICEF activities  and programmes.

To make a difference, you will be accountable for the following tasks and deliverables:

Overall tasks of the selected vendors will be, under the guidance of the Chief of Advocacy & Communication and/or the Communication Specialist and/or the Communication Officer, to:

  • Support through photography advocacy related to children’s rights (health, nutrition, education, protection, water and sanitation, social protection.,.) including intersectoral advocacy (E.g. early childhood development (ECD) and Adolescence) as well as campaigns and partnerships (e.g. Every Child Alive & Thriving, Clean Green Pakistan, Early Moments Matter, Generation Unlimited, ENDviolence...), etc.
  • Document through photography programmes led by UNICEF, including some funded by donors
  • Document activities led by UNICEF or partners, such field visits, events, etc.
  • Produce photo series with storytelling (longer captions).
  • Produce professional, high quality and high-resolution photo materials suitable for printing, publishing and use in mass media and in digital or social media purposes.
  • Ensure the dignity of subjects, abiding by applicable UNICEF / UN guidelines and policies (e.g. ethical reporting on children) that will be provided upon contract signature.
  • Keep in mind culture, gender and other diverse sensitivities when taklng photos. Abide by UNlCEF’s ethical rules for reporting on children.
  • Ensure that written consent forms are signed by parents and caregivers when taking photos in cases when it is required by UNICEF.
  • On assignment completion, transfer high quality photos in high resolution electronically or by DVD/portable drive courier sent to UNICEF, including written captions.
  • Work closely with UNICEF’s Chief of Advocacy & Communication and other members of the Advocacy & Communication Team.
  • Ensure effective and efficient provision of services, full confidentiality in all aspects of the assignment, management of information flow and follow-up on deadlines and commitments made.
  • In special events, the photographer may be required a couple of photos within the hour(s) following the event, the rest to follow later.
  • Abide with UNICEF’s copyright rules and regulations. Refrain from providing any photo materials taking under a UNICEF Agency assignment to any media outlet, publishing agency, organization or personality, unless it was formally approved by UNICEF.
  • Photographer to supply all photographic equipment and agree to provide, if requested, transmissions of rough edit selections of best images, with complete caption information.
  • UNICEF has first selection rights to all originals taken on this assignment with non-exclusive concomitant world rights in all media in perpetuity

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Minimum five years of progressive experience as a photographer 
  • Good interpersonal skills and flexible attitude.

NOTE:

  • Estimated Duration: 11.5 months,

  • Official Travel Involved: Consultant will be based in their local city.

  • HEC Attested and verified degrees are a pre-requisite for employment at UNICEF. During the recruitment process candidates will be required to present attested and verified degrees.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Background checks will include the verification of academic credential(s) and employment history. Selected candidates may be required to provide additional information to conduct a background check.

Technical Assessment, in your application, please indicate:

  • Number of years of work experience as a documentary photographer
  • Previous experience of working with development sector (please name organisations)

  • Photographic Equipment owned and to be used on UNICEF assignments
  • Caption writing skills
  • Photo samples from three recent assignments
  • Photographic awards and achievement would be an asset

Financial Assessment

  • Professional fee per day (a day when camera work is performed)
  • Fee for travel day (a day when its only travel and no camera work)
  • Fee for post-production day (one day of post-production will be permitted against three days of field camera work)

Mobility is a condition of international professional employment with UNICEF and an underlying premise of the international civil service.
