Livelihoods Assistant (Economic Recovery) - Ba'aj.

DRC has been operating in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for over a decade, running a combination of emergency, livelihood, protection and advocacy programmes through Country Offices (COs) in Algeria, Libya/Tunisia, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey with a Regional Office (RO) in Amman. DRC has 17 offices and approximately one thousand staff members across the MENA region. Following an internal HQ restructuring, from 1st January 2018 the region is focusing on the Middle East, hence Algeria, Tunisia and Libya will transition to a new region during the course of 2018, while Yemen will join the Middle East region
Overall purpose of the role:
The Livelihood Assistant supports the implementation and monitoring of new Economic Recovery projects. S/he is able to work independently and be responsible for community outreach, data collection and entry, assessments and field monitoring. S/he will support with the provision of delivery of trainings, distributions and field monitoring while ensuring accuracy of reporting, donor and technical compliance.
Under the Supervision of the LH Officer and LH Team Leader:
- Assist with community outreach and engagement to raise community awareness of activities
- Support with the delivery of technical Business and Financial Management trainings, Life Skills trainings, field verification of business proposals follow up
- Supervise community mobilization and community outreach
- Support identification of outreach strategies and community liaison using Baaj contextual awareness
- Conduct data collection for assessments and surveys such as market assessments, price monitoring, labour market studies, feasibility studies with the guidance of the Livelihoods Officer / Team Leader.
- Oversee the work of temporary enumerators and daily workers during outreach, data collection, assessments and distributions.
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date, accurate records, community meetings and other relevant programme documentation, including through data entry and verification.
- Assist with the preparation of attendance and distribution lists, and with cash distributions. Support in scanning and filing
- Conduct activities in a community- and rights-based, participatory manner, maintaining an Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD), and conflict-sensitive approach to community engagement.

Experience and technical competencies:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to engage with communities respectfully and openly, and to work sensitively with vulnerable people.
- Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian values and principles
- Strong contextual knowledge and awareness of the market gaps
- Teaching experience is an asset
- Ability to work quickly and flexibly, collaborate and work as part of a team to achieve joint objectives.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, and act with transparency and integrity.
- Competence in basic Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook etc). Experience using tablets, Survey CTO, Kobo Collect/ODK preferred.
- Understanding of the local context, key humanitarian issues and displacement trends.
- Experience working with UN or Non-Governmental Organizations, particularly in livelihoods, or in a relevant field such as social work, urban planning or business development, or business management.
- Willingness and capacity to work majority of the time in the field and travel frequently to project sites as required
