The International Renewable Energy Agency is an inter-governmental organisation headquartered in Abu Dhabi, mandated to promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. IRENA’s mission is to play a leading role in the ongoing transformation of the global energy systems as a centre of excellence for knowledge and innovation, a global voice of renewable energy, a network hub for all stakeholders and a source of advice and support for countries.  At present, IRENA has 162 Members (161 States and the European Union) that acceded to its Statute, and 22 additional States in the process of accession and actively engaged.

 

Country Engagement and Partnerships Division (CEP) is the Agency’s window to Members and partners worldwide and leads the engagement with countries at national, regional and sub-regional information. This requires both substantive understanding of local circumstances and thorough knowledge of actors. CEP also facilitates the engagement of other programmatic divisions to effectively deploy analyses, data and methodologies for change on the ground.

 

One of the important functions of the Division is to pursue strategic, result-oriented partnerships with various regional and local organisations and development partners active in the renewables area to achieve long-term impact in its work on the ground through leveraging efforts and resources, maximizing synergies and complementarities, and avoiding possible duplication. Among others, the Division coordinates and facilitates the implementation of a number of multi-stakeholder partnership platforms, including, the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative (LHI), the Global Geothermal Alliance (GGA) as well as various initiatives promoting decentralized renewable energy solutions within the framework of the International Off-Grid Renewable Energy Conference (IOREC) Platform.

 
 Duties and Responsibilities
 

Under the guidance of the Director, Country Engagement and Partnerships and immediate supervision of the Head of Partnerships Unit, Programme Officer will be responsible for the following duties\:

 
  • Support the development of strategic, result-oriented bilateral and multilateral partnerships with international, regional, national and local institutions sharing a common vision of promoting an accelerated deployment of renewable energy across regions;
  • Support the coordination and implementation of the multi-stakeholder partnership initiatives supported and/or facilitated by IRENA;
  • Support IRENA’s partnership initiatives in the energy access sphere relying on decentralized renewable energy solutions, including in the context of the energy, water, food, health nexus;
  •  Support other outreach activities to promote awareness by key stakeholders on the activities and impacts of IRENA’s partnership work;
  • Support the organisation of, and follow-up on, high-level and technical meetings and events, ensuring effective participation of key stakeholders, experts and partners;
  • Conduct research on trends, key topics, and emerging issues, and assist with the preparation of reports;
  •  Support the research and development of knowledge products in the context of the implementation of the partnership initiatives;
  • Perform other duties, as required.

Qualifications
 

Education\: Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, engineering, environment or natural science, or other relevant fields. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

 

Experience\: A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience within a project management role. Experience of working in international organizations, project development and financing, management consultancies and/or national governments in an international setting.

 

Language\: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
